I read this earlier.

I may have missed a chunk though as it wasn't clear what her husband was doing while his disabled wife was being beaten to a bloody pulp by this thug. Anyone know? I find a partner not stepping in to aleast attempt to defend their OH even more chilling than a random stranger with anger management issues laying into a defenceless disabled person.

My god. Poor woman. And her poor husband, trying to fight off this man all by himself while fellow passengers looked on, laughing.

x-post saffy.

It didn't say. I just assumed he was trying to fight him off. It's what any husband would do. If he was physically capable.

Can understand no one doing anything for fear of their own safety, however not staying to give a witness statement? Disgusting. And some passengers laughed? What is the world coming to?

I might be wrong, but something about this story makes no sense. The 85 bus is generally a pretty normal bus with a mix of mums, old ladies, students, workers etc, and I can't imagine this happening while the other passengers looked on and laughed at a woman being beaten unconscious., and the driver apparently did nothing.
Also, what was the husband doing?

mumbar · 07/12/2010 16:29

Sad I also presumed the OH tried to help in some way and can understand others not getting involved in a seemingly very violent attack for fear of their own safety.

BUT.... to sit there laughing Angry

Don't get me wrong all the other people on the bus ought to be ashamed for laughing at this poor woman's plight and maybe her husband did step in but I found it odd the article didn't mention what he was doing, whether he physically stepped in, begged others for help or phoned 999.

As no one has stepped forward to make a witness statement (again shame on them) there is only the DH's version of events to go by. Also the picture from CCTV is dated September. They've left it a bit late to find this guy, especially as he is described as wearing a black puffer and aged around 35 jacket but in the CCTV image he is wearing a different kind of jacket and looks no more than 30 Confused

Does sound odd - at no point does the husband say he tried to help.

If the bloke had banged into her then it could have all been over before he could step in, but if the thug then went on to smash her head into the floor, why didn't he do 'owt then? Hmm

I know it doesn't make it okay, but why didn't she make room for him?

IME, if there is room for 2 buggies and someone is taking the whole area up, the driver still lets the second buggy on because technically there is room for it.

Saffy - my son was mugged in april as he got off the train. The police didn't put the cctv pictures into the local paper until July when they had drawn a blank. We had a lot of witnesses thankfully. Three people were put on bail last week for the mugging.

saffy85 · 07/12/2010 16:38

Think there is more to it tbh, there is never any excuse for beating someone up ofcourse but as no one else has come forward with either a similar version or even a completely different version to the husband's I'm a bit Hmm about it.

Hope they catch this man. Wouldn't want to cross him, ever.

Note, I Am Not Saying This Never Happened.

But, there are cases of people making up spurious claims of being attacked. I think a woman recently accused a bus driver of racial abuse but her account simply didn't stack up. No CTV evidence even though the alleged incident would have been on camera (at the bus station, I think) if it had happened.

It seems an odd story to me, but perhaps more facts will emerge. And as I said, I am not saying it didn't happen, just that it's all very rum. The wanted man is not wearing a puffa jacket for one thing so doesn't match the description. Perhaps the couple spotted him from old CTV footage, if he is a regular commuter. But, like I said, tis all very odd.

I was going to say the same about the attacker's clothing, Saffy. Added to that, the woman in his company is said to have been "large built".

If his companion is the woman in the CCTV footage then of a large build is not how I'd describe her.

It's all very peculiar.

I'm glad they found the people that mugged your son bruffin. Always wondered if I'd remember clearly enough to be any help if asked to remember something that happened months ago.

Can't believe that on a bus full of 80 people not one person even came forward as a witness.

Missed that bit 'seen with a blackberry phone'.

Hmm

If ever a bloke starts hurling abuse at me, I must make a mental note of what phone he has!

I am sure something happened - clearly the police have looked at CCTV of some incident. But what the Daily Mail says happened is not necessarily what the police are investigating.
The picture is a bit bizarre. Apart from any discrepancies in the physical description, the issue was that she wouldn't move her pram for him allegedly. So when he was getting on the bus? If so, why he is he standing there quite happily on the CCTV? Is this after he beat a woman unconscious? Is the pram in the picture his? Also, that looks like a fairly busy bus. Did this fight go on in the middle of the aisle with people being pushed out of the way? Did he drag her over the top of the pram to get her onto the floor? I can't possibly picture this happening the way it is described.

Maybe the attacker was carrying his jacket ? It looks like he's wearing a suit jacket in that image.

they've said they're looking for that man... not that the photo issued was taken on the day of the attack...
