AIBU?

To think I shouldn't have to ask to go home sick?

Of course you should let your employer know
I'm just soo pissed off with my boss, an hour before the end of my shift I started having palpitations, then had to run out to be sick.
My colleague said 'oh you have to ask mrs shitface to go home'
so I telephoned her, and got a full on interrogation -
what's wrong?
Why do you think that is?
Why can't you just sit down for five minutes?
It's very not-ideal but IF you're ill I suppose you can go...

Like she's a fucking doctor?!?!

A bug has gone round our department for 4 weeks now , taking time off to be poorly is apparently the worst thing you can do so all the staff come in and happily cough and sneeze everywhere.

Pisses me right off.
And fwiw I work in a large department store- I'm sure the other 57 till girls will manage without me for an hour.

YANBU. I can self-certify however have to phone a central "sickness report" office. Stupid bitch said "what's wrong with you?", I told her and she said "you don't know that, you're not a doctor". Well, why the fuck ask me then? Hmm

YANBU. My boss is similar. Problem is she comes in full of cold, bugs etc. when ill herself (once giving us a full run down of her loose bowel movements, so we could see how great it was that she made it in) so expects us too. Her direct reports are seven months PG (me) and suffer from M.E. (my colleague), so we just love it when she comes and spreads get germs

YANBU. I would state that I was too unwell to work and was therefore going home.

YANBU, my boss is like this, what makes it worse is that she works maybe 10 hours a week then tells us she's never off (its her own business)

right PITA

YANBU, of course you should be able to go home if you're sick, it should just be a case of letting your manager know you have to go, not asking permission.

YANBU. How ridiculous is she? You decide if you are too sick to work not them, at least for the first few days off, and then it's still not their decision it's your GP's. Blimey.

I used to work for a big high street store and if anyone was ill at work like sick then they had to ask permission to go home and it was then put down as unauthorised absence!Hmm

Indeed! I'm not the sort to have a sniffle and stay off for two weeks but ffs, I was dizzy, sweating and trying not to puke through all her stupid arsed questions, I'm dreading going in tomorrow now :(

I think yab (a bit) unreasonable. It's courtesy to ask, surely? I would have thought that in most places you have to see your line manager and ask, although I think the 3rd degree was out of order.
