AIBU?

To think that I should be able to move my own money?

I have been snowed in on top of a hill since the weekend, each day hoping the next will be good enough to get out again, but only waking up to find conditions have worsened. I need to put money in my personal account from my business account because of all the bills that are coming out. I can't get into the bank, my branch has decided to close because of the weather, the 'helpline' won't help me - I need to talk to my own manager (the branch is closed, duh) and internet banking will take up to 4 days to transfer the money. So I called the bank where my personal account is held who, when identifying me, told me I'd failed to answer the security questions correctly (?!?!) and will now not speak to me to help me sort the problem. So I'm now looking forward to gazillions of bank charges because it will probably be next Tuesday before any money arrives.
Now that's what I call efficient. And really helpful. Xmas Angry

Are you absolutely sure it'll take 4 days to do an interenet transfer? Sometimes they do that then it goes through really quickly. Do a test transfer of a fiver and see if it goes through this afternoon.

Marlowwills is right - quite often it goes through really quickly, they just say 4 days as a kind of 'insurance' in case it takes longer.

Or, you could name and shame on here and use the power of mumsnet to get your message a across Wink

Do you personal bank and business bank with the same bank? If so money will transfer instantly online. Do you have online banking?

If they are two different banks and they are major high street i.e barclays, lloyds, HSBC, natwest et al you can still transfer up to £10,000 online via faster payments - will credit same day with no charge.

marlow - it won't even leave my account until tomorrow. I know it takes several days because I've done it many times before. I was searching for a loophole - well, just a bit of consideration because of the circumstances, really - to ensure my money could be moved from my bank 1 account to my bank 2 account on the same day, but no such luck.
I'm really not liking banks atm

loolop - the 'helpline' told me that - if it is under £10k it could go through as a faster payment. It didn't (but you don't know that until the transaction has completed)
