Just had a phonecall on land line saying I filled in an online questionnaire and they wanted to confirm 3 of my answers
1-are myself and Dh in the 25-60 age bracket
2-are we homeowners
3-are we uk residents and have always been uk citizens or something along those lines

Anyway when I replied yes to all he said I'd won a luxury holiday for 4 people to Spain Portugal or canaries (I think) with flights and accomodation.

When I said 'yeah right' he said no it's a legitimate company called clc somethingorother and is abta and atol registered.

The next step would be to be put through to the travel dept to decide where we wanted to go and give my address to send out the details.
Once confirmation had arrived we d have to pay 29 quid per person admin fee.

I told him didn't have time now as dd3 in hospital and I need to get back and swap with Dh.

He said he ll call back next week.

So- it must be a scam but how does it work since we don't pay anything until they send us stuff??

Total scam IMO.

You can send me £29 if you like!

not a scam, but one of those 'timeshare' style things where you go, listen to a sales pitch either here (UK) or when you are abroad.

They will then do the hard sell thing, but if you can stay strong and arent interested in purchasing, get the kids to kick up a fuss or something similar, then you will be fine.

Enjoy your 'free' holiday.

Cynical? Moi?

Darn it Imarriedafrog - you got there first!

My rule of thumb is to ignore anything anyone who cold-calls me says

We did the CLC thing last summer and it was great. We had 4 nights in a 3 bed lodge in Achterarder, Scotland and it was absolutely lovely. We paid £99 for it.
The 'catch' was that we had to attend a timeshare presentation on one morning which took a long time, they bought us a lovely breakfast that day and entertained the kids. The actualy cost of the timeshare was incredible but there was no high pressure sales pitch and after we said no they didnt chase us at all about it. I would definately go.

Yeah, the scam is the £29 per person, and then they'll invite you to a presentation it'll be a hard sell timeshare thing that nobody really wants, but you'll only qualify for the 'free' holiday if you sign up

Or, they just take the £29 and you never hear of them again

Thought it may be some kind of timeshare, obviously if they d said get your debit card out and pay us the money now that would ve been the scam but because he said you pay once you get the paperwork then I was wondering how they scammed you.

Would be able to cope with a mornings hard sell for a potentially v cheap holiday but Dh wouldnt do it ( he couldn't even sit down to listen to a mornings ante natal class)

Anyway it's been a stressful week with dd3 my brain in fried so I thought I must ve been missing some really obvious way of them scamming!
