AIBU to not understand why so many people eat lots of take aways, chocolate, chips etc etc on a regular basis but seem to be obsessed about choosing semi skimmed / fat free milk over full cream milk?
Compared to all the rubbish in the average diet, there is not a lot of fat in full cream milk.

If I have full fat cappuccino, I can only drink one. But if I have a skinny one, I can have two! Nothing to do with the calories, I just think whole milk is too rich and makes me a bit queasy if I drink too much of it. I just prefer skimmed milk.

Has to be full fat in hot chocolate though!

Creamy coffee is good, but I hate creamy tea or creamy cereal so have to buy semi skimmed :)

Isn't there more calcium in semi-skimmed or is that a myth?

But surely crap diet + semi-skimmed milk is better than crap diet + full-fat milk?

I do see your point. It's like when people order 2 Big Mac meals with extra-large fries.. and a diet Coke.

Doesn't the skimmed milk nullify the calories of the biscuit you dip in it?

Like having diet coke with chips?

.... and eating the crumbs at the bottom of the biscuit tin as the calories have fallen out?

'Full fat' sounds so calorific-so I can understand why some people may think it is worse than eating the junk food mentioned by the op. It isn't. Grin. Milk in any form is good-skimmed & semi skimmed has the same calcium value as full fat-just less fat.

I prefer the taste of semi skimmed to full fat.

I can't drink semi or full fat, has to be skimmed. I used to only drink full fat, but switched to skimmed due to diet, and since then, anything other than skimmed tastes like I'm sipping double cream.

I don't like full fat milk. And I can't stand cream in coffee. It was better in the old days when you got unhomogenised milk from the milkman. My dad took the creamy bit from the top, I liked milk from the second half of the bottle.

Whole milk, as it's technically called, is around 4% - 4.5% fat depending on the time of year and breed. The least of your worries quite frankly in the 'crap diet' situation, and quite probably the lowest fat thing in said 'crap diet'...

OP you are sooooo NBU

I get irrationally freaked out by the creamy bit floating on the top of full fat milk which is why I have semi-skimmed.

Semi-skimmed tastes much better to me ( though I eat a pretty balanced diet, with few takeaways, sweets etc).

In order to absorb the calcium from milk you also need the Vit D which is fat soluable so in the 'fat' part of the milk. I wouldn't choose skimmed for this reason no matter how much they have improved the taste.

Some people will consume a lot of dairy over the course of a day/week and switching from whole to semi-skimmed products is an easy way to reduce saturated fat intake.

We have blue top milk, proper butter ( which goes on our veggies to ) and use olive oil frequently in our house.

Im the only one who is fat, because i eat lots of other bad stuff too, although im working on that.

We use each of the above sparingly, as they are so rich you don't need that much at all.

My DH and DS are very healthy and lean, i have never restricted fat, apart from excess on meats, or draining mince etc.

Even as the fat person, my cholesteral is low and in the healthy range, and have little fat around my organs ( the bad kind ).

So even though im trying to loose weight, i won't switch to marge, or low fat substitutes.

I was brought up on skimmed milk and it's what tastes like milk to me - I don't like cream, so dislike the creamy taste of even semi-skimmed milk.

I do eat a fair bit of chocolate and lots and lots and lots of cheese, but none of my food choices are anything to do with calories or weight. I'm a size 8 and seem to always be that no matter what I eat (it's a good thing really as I have no willpower whatsoever, especially when it comes to cheese).

Because if there are 100 calories fewer in my latte, where I hardly notice it, I can eat those 100 calories somewhere else where I will enjoy them a lot more. Obviously.
