Perspective !

I have been hiding threads like mad lately and getting quite tired of this 'WE ARE DOOMED' attitude ... I think we need to get some perspective:

  • We can laugh at our politicians and take the mick without fear of censure or imprisonment
  • Our daughters and sons are educated the same way
  • We have the right to protest, vote and there is a freedom of press that is quite remarkable
  • We can turn on taps, turn on light switches and appliances don't question the availability of heating, electricity or water

It is just a few things that many people in the world don't have (and are losing their lives because of it!!)

AIBU??

we arent allowed to protest as freely as we used to be, havent they closed the right to protest outside that square in london? Protests are hardly ever reported on so noone knows they happen (censorship).

just because we have a better standard of life than many dousnt mean we should stop trying to improve.

Thank you, thank you! I too get sick and tired of this.

  • We are not in danger of genocide

-we do not have to get our food from rubbish dumps
-we have clean, safe water to drink
-our children are not wandering the streets trying to get money for the family

I hate hearing all the 'woe is me' crap. The worst that will happen is life may become more stressful; you may have to live off value beans on toast and wear second hand clothes.

Far, far, far worse things have happened and are happening than having not much money to live on.

And trust me, I'm not being flippant - I was brought up with no money at all. Nearly all of us live off far more money than most people in the world have to survive on.

Quit moaning and start budgetting!

And 'trying to improve' is not the same as telling everyone how distressed and terrified you are about the idea of having less money.

YANBU.

The cuts in public spending will take us back to the spending levels of 2004.

I don't remember 2004 being all that bad.

Completely agree. DH watched a documentary a little while ago about families trying to flee North Korea and getting shot at by their own government, because their children had SN and would be taken off them and put into homes. It was on at the same time as a Panorama special, where members of the UK public got a chance to directly talk to politicians about rising costs of living - when DH switched over, a man was ranting about the fact that sandwiches in his local shop had gone up from £2 to £2.50. Sandwiches ffs.

Also (if anyone has got as far as this in my rambling thread), we went to visit DS's future primary school the other day, and were blown away by the facilities and general environment - DS will be lucky to go there.
