AIBU?

to not understand why the government couldn't just raise income tax?

I guess that wouldn't help with all the savings that had to be made (or so we're told), but why no tax rise at all?

German newspapers very critical of measures btw, saying it will kill the already ailing British economy.

because that would affect the rich.

these are the tories we're talking about. its thpose dirty scroungers that need sorting out. they should pay for not being surgeons or barristers or captains of industry. serves them right for just being cleaners or checkout operators etc.

umm, they have - in the budget in June, and previously put in place by the labour government.

laweaselmys · 20/10/2010 22:41

Because they are a Tory government, they hate tax.

Apparently it is better to have huge numbers of unemployed people and no money than to annoy some rich people.

They could do more. We still have relatively low tax rates.

I am sure they will in the next Budget.

This is the Spending Review which we just had which as the name suggests is about spending not reveue raising which is the job of the Budget.

YANBU
let's take away more disposable by making poor people poorer - after all they don't spend much anyway, it's the rich who need all the cash to spend us out of the recession anyway isn't it?

Fuck the tories. Yes, fuck them. My service may be put out to tender which means I would be made redundant, and the vulnerable teenagers I work with will be FUCKED. I have transferable skills and will fuck right off to the private sector but it's the poor fucking 'dregs of society' that fucking need the service we provide who will be FUCKED. Gaaaaaaaaaaah fuck them hard up the ass with a big dildo and no lube.

because they would get no votes anymore ever. Of course it will kill the economy. Parts of Wales, the North and North East will be a wasteland

blame it on the previous government - it's so corrupt

i really think they are relying in people's collective stupidity

why should we raise tax so that those of us are in the club can pay even more to those
who are not in the club THROUGH THEIR OWN PERSONAL CHOICE.

i have no issues in paying my way and helping those who need help through no fault of their own BUT i am sick and tired of supporting those who are physically and mentally able to work but will not work (unless it's for cash in hand of course)

some while ago i had the misfortune to be sat on a plane next to 2 members of a 5 family party non of whom worked - as they told me during the flight - and what an education this was !!! mum and dad were grossly overweight - both had to have seat belt extenders - on the row in front were their family - 2 young women - one pregnant, the other with a small baby (both in velour tracksuits)
and a boyfriend of 1 of the girls - they had just had 2 weeks all inclusive - they collected their duty frees (pre ordered on the way out) of their full allowances of cigs and spirits and then bought extra perfume for the girls !!!!!!

taxes HAVE been raised and the child benefit has been cut for the wealthy. What more do you want?

Or do you just not want anyone to have more money than you?

Do eff off mollymole, you experienced 1 family (whose financial situation you are unaware of) they may have inherited etc. You then extrapolate to everyone that is not "in the club", you're an imbecile.

Sorry, has there been a budget announcement that I've missed? Confused

Didn't think so.. give 'em a few months, then complain about the inevitable income tax rises.

OH paid £184k in tax and national insurance last year. Exactly why should we just keep propping up everyone else?

The richest 1% (and that's not even us although I feel rich) contribute 24% of the taxes in the UK so they are paying more than their fair share!

Duuuuuuhhhhhhhh!!! Mollymole, you/they can afford it. Get bent to a private island, take your money and shove it.

Um, I think you might be in the top 1% GMM. I believe we are too - and we didn't pay that much tax!

As COG said, the richest 1% can afford it (you only need so much money to live well). But many middle income households wouldn't mind paying extra tax if it went into services for all.

Why should we pay more tax for a bloated and wasteful public sector. There are way too many people doing non-jobs

Just because the rich can afford it does not mean they should keep bailing everyone out. It seems like all of society below a certain income have a scrounger mentality!
