AIBU?

to think that being a member of the breakdown recovery service for those motorists who care about the environment

is being a tad hypocritical?

I was behind a car today that had a sticker in the back window, saying 'the breakdown recovery service for the motorist who cares for the environment'.

I don't know nor care which service this is.

But I found it hypocritical that it was on an 'm' reg car that was not the most fuel efficient of cars.

AIBU to have thought, you can't care that much about the environment, as either a) you'd be using another form of transport or b) you'd of had a greener car, and I think you chose that company for its price?

"you'd of had a greener car, and I think you chose that company for its price?"

Most of the carbon consumed in a car's lifetime is embodied in its manufacture and disposal, and keeping old cars going is infinitely more environmentally friendly than destroying a perfectly serviceable car, replacing it with a newly built on, and getting a small improvement in the fuel consumption in exchange.

I can take a sunrise and a Biscuit.

And there's a theory that says using an older car means no fuel used to scrap it or build a new car, plus the shipping etc etc.

Fair enough I was - I will hold up my hands here and say I'm not an environmentalist at all I get told off by dh for not recycling, so I wasn't thinking it in a righteous manner of I'm greener than you.

I hadn't even known/thought of the green aspect of making new car or disposing of old one.

I've never received a biscuit before!
