she couldn't sleep last night and had to bring her duvet into our room to sleep on the floor, so I tripped over her when I got out of bed for a wee and banged my wrist on the dressing table?

Eh?

Bloody 'Sign of the Plum Tree' or whatever it's called! About the plague in London or something

I think hope she's joking. Never heard of the book myself.

How old is she? Is it 'At the Sign of the Sugared Plum'?

Grin Suing might be going just a tad far, but do hate these scarey books, or ones that put ideas in head: I concealed some book about a creature that was scared of the dark, so that dd would not think she shouldn't go to bed.

My brother once got a book from the Tufty Book Club or some such children's book club and he had nightmares for weeks. I remember finding it hillarious Grin. Your poor dd having to sleep on the floor though.

She's 11.

She terrified herself but wouldn't stop reasing it because it was so good.

I would sue.

And also demand phone number of the teacher so that your DD can call them in the middle of the night when they are scared.

Filibear, the teacher gave DD the book therefore the book MUST be read because The Teacher Said So.

I'd sue.....is it your right wrist (apologies for assuming right-handedness), any damage to the dressing table? Also new bedroom carpet, or did you make it to the loo? Grin

I used to terrify myself by buying dreadful ghost books (complete with photos of actual real ghosts) from the school book club. My mum had no sympathy and wouldn't let me put them anywhere except for the shelf right next to my bed. I didn't close my eyes for six months.

Poor girl. When we did the Plague and Great Fire of London at school, I had nightmares for weeks and even started sleep walking I was so upset.

Oh yes, and hold off until the PTSD kicks in before suing. It's still early days.

That's the Mary Hooper book that someone recommended on here recently. It looks really good actually, I'm planning to get it for DD2 (she's 10 and mad about history). Should I set up a bed on my bedroom floor before I give it her?

I was particularly bothered by volcanos when I was little. Not helped by the fact we lived near some extinct ones ('but how do they know, dad....?').

I happened to pick up a book in DS's school once while waiting for parents evening and it was about a badger (?) who was very old and sad that he couldn't run about any more like his young friends and then he goes to sleep and dreams that he's running and running down a long tunnel and he's so happy...

And in the morning his friends find him dead, and then they remember him and so on. I was totally traumatised

Just lying around in the school!!

Mice (and other animals) dressed up like people always freaked me out (still does).

Shall I sue the creators of Bagpuss?
