Very sensible! Do whatever you like.

Well, if it's a nice pub, what's wrong with it?

I am sick of the wedding venues hiking up costs, with their "Obviously on your very special day you want everything to be especially perfect and special and therefore will fork out extra for the bog roll to match the bridesmaids shoes." malarkey.

Sounds great. Are we invited? Grin

nothing wrong with it, cheap drinks and a dj which is a family friend

Sounds fab, and is very on trend. Ostentatious is over.

Congratulations!

i just don't get why people spend 1000's on a wedding

Neither do I! As long as you have a great day with the people you love...who cares if it's not in some faceless hotel? I would rather a pub any day actually.

Sounds fine to me - why spend money you can't afford/don't want to on something like a wedding? It's down to you how you get married, not other people's expectations.

People spend thousands on a wedding because they want to, they can afford to, they have vision in their heads as to how a wedding should be, because it is the biggest party they will ever get to organise, or their families bullied them into it, or they think it's not a proper wedding without x y or z, all sorts of reasons.

Your wedding sounds fine if that is how you want to do it, but there's no need for you to be disdainful of 'showy' weddings any more than there is for those who have big weddings to look down on your registry-office-and-pub wedding.

Sorry sounds a bit like I was getting at you there, I'm not saying that you are doing the reverse snobbery thing, but this thread has the potential to turn into that.

If the dj is your friend does that mean he or she will actually play the songs you ask for? Bonus!

OP, that's exactly what we did. I've not regretted it.

That's exactly what dp and I are doing- our town all is beautiful and pretty grand and then slightly well to do bar/restaurant cooks my favourite ever meal exactly how I like it!
My idea of hell is standing in a frock outside a castle - I hate the countryside and panic if I'm more than half an hour away from a large town!

Registry office followed by restaurant for me and hubby, both in our 20's and first wedding. Was a perfect day :)

nattiecake - first wedding? somewhat cynical, no? Wink

Sounds all fine!

What's to object to? Wedding, then party in a pub?

Erm...Sounds pretty good to me Grin

Congratulations and enjoy your day!

It sounds perfect to me! Whens the big day?

Report

Grin Haha, you know what i mean! A lot of people only do the registry office etc once they've already had the big white wedding!

Though hubbys dad is on wedding numero tres so he doesnt have the best role model... Hmm

If its what the bride and groom want for their wedding day then its fine

Ooh not that pub though; I hear they once caught a couple [mumble, whisper, ahem] and it's only held on now with blu-tac...

Sounds great. As a guest I would be pleased, it's right up my street.

As long as it is a nice pub - why not! We ran off abroad by ourselves then had a big party at our house when we came back.

Why not? We did something very similar and instead spent the money on a major, trip-of-a-lifetime honeymoon. I've got no regrets.
