Around 8 weeks I bought an chair and footstool from the Trafford Centre store. It was delivered (without legs) on Wednesday 8th September. The next day my 16 month old daughter dribbled on the footstool, i checked the lable on the cushion and blotted the wet area with a dry cloth. Upon inspection around an hour later i noticed the wet area had dried but the fabric was now a completely different colour in that area, as though the dye had come out. I called the store and discussed this with who i believe to be the operations manager, he was very helpful and asked me to send a photograth. Over the weekend i moved the chair and footstool so my children were nowhere near it for fear of the entire thing being ruined. This morning (13th September) i called the store and spoke to the manager He was very abupt and complained that this was the third time i'd called in a week (it was the second) I explain that i am worried about the chair being ruined due to just a bit of water. He said that's what you should expect if you have small children. I said yeah, the odd stain, but not the colour to disappear! He then asked that i bring the cushion in so he could examine it. A couple of hours later i took it to the store, the manager wasn't available, so i left it and went for lunch with my children. I called in on the way back to quickly speak to him.

Upon speaking with him he clearly couldn't be bothered with me. He stated that he did not believe that the mark had been caused by a baby's dribble and would be putting water on the store one to see. He spoke so rudely to me in front of several customers. I have spent appoximatly £10,000 in this store in the past couple of years and the manner in which he spoke to me actually reduced me to tears. He practically called me a liar to my face. The irony is that this is probably the least expensive item we have ever bought.

ambu to complain about him?

complain. even if the item you braught was not under warrenty it should have some fair sage policy. it is unreasonable to expect that a small amount of dribble should cause such colour change, unless it was suede, or maybe brushed silk ect..

I work in customer services, we would request you email accross photos of the damage and details of what happened and how long ago you baguth it. the company should forward this on to the supplier who should replace the item for you at cost to themselves. alternativly they may offer you money towards to cost of getting it fixed or made new again

Complain! Items legally have to be "fit for purpose" - clearly this includes furniture not staining from a bit of dribble! Write the most indignent letter you can, threaten to contact Watchdog and Trading Standards, complain that you have never experienced such a rude member of staff in yout life and you are going to tell all your friends and post on websites not to use their store. Ask for a refund and compensation for your time. I am seething just thinking about it. As you can tell, I get very wound up with the service industry and have a few stories of my own! [ ..... and breathe.]
