AIBU?

to complain about out of date sausages?

Or is it our (dh's!) fault for not being more observant!!

We went shopping on Saturday afternoon and bought a couple of packs of Mr T's finest sausages.

Then last night was just whizzing through the meat in the fridge to check use by dates, and one pack of the flaming sausages has a use by date of 12th Aug! We went shopping on the 14th........

Dh thinks I'm making a fuss, but tbh I'm irritated by this, particularly as we've found dates on several occasions to be a day after we've bought the item.

What do you think??? Shall I march my sausages into Tesco tomorrow and moan??

Course you should!

Email? I've done this with Sainsbury's with an out of date chicken and got £5 worth of nectar points (make sure you include your clubcard number in the email and ask for compensation)

Just take them back. Tis hardly an outrage and a waste of an AIBU

They shouldn't be selling things out of date. However, the sausages are probably fine so I would just eat them.

I would - even better if you've got the receipt!

I'm just fed up with our local store taking the piss tbh! Will be going to Sainsbury's next time.....

Morloth - no way I'll get dh to eat them. He even throws out bread and yogurt if he spots it's past the sell by date. I now chuck the little tape from the bread with the date on in the bin. He is a pita with use by dates!

Take them back, you should get your money back and replacement sausages. To be fair to your DH, is easily done - you assume things will be in date when they are on the supermarket shelf.

Sainsbury's are bad for this also (since we are naming and shaming - hope I don't get sued!)

JAMM - there is no limit on AIBU's we won't run out just because one is not of international importanceGrin

This happened to me once.

Took some butter from the fridge and it was mouldy. I looked at the sell by date and it was a couple of weeks before - I had bought it a couple of days before.

So, I matched to the shop with all my righteous indignation. I got a new butter, a box of chocs and a bottle of wine. The shop couldn't understand how it happened because they had strict stock rotation.

Anyway, the next day I found another tub of butter at the back of the fridge, the one I had bought a couple of days previously.

I had taken my housemates manky old butter he had bought ages ago and forgotten about.

I try to take them back, they all have budged to cover such scenarios, but it also reflects on the manager so they will try harder.

LOL@MorningTownRide , sounds like something I would do!

Yes, return the sausages, with the recite as proof of the date. The corner store here has a policy "Fresh or it's free". They'd refund your money and give you a new, free pack of meat.

"no way I'll get dh to eat them. He even throws out bread and yogurt if he spots it's past the sell by date"

And yet he bought stuff past its sell-by date...

We've just finished a large tub of yoghurt dated late July. We're not dead.

"And yet he bought stuff past its sell-by date..."

He didn't do it intentionally Grin! He's obviously under the misguided belief that food on shelves is within the use by date....

Tesco are really bad for it. Dh has to check all the packaging when he does the main shop on a saturday as you often only get 1 or 2 days before they are past their date.
