..to suck out all the marrow of life

"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

"I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary.

"I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion"

Yep, I am having an affair.

With a woman who posts on MN, oddly enough.

So I am being an arse to my DW, I can quite see that. But also - I am sucking out the marrow of life.

And don't imagine I am the only person on MN with a secret lover.

(The quote? it's Henry David Thoreau)

Yeah, sounds like you're sucking the marrow out of her life. If this is your definition of living sturdily and Spartan-like...

Not sure what the point of this is, but if you do wish to suck the marrow of life, can it not be done without shafting your wife and kids (if you have any)?

oh thats ok then, if you are doing it to "suck out the marrow of life" and "publish it to the world", to enlighten us poor moral souls who will never live a full life.

Secret lovers, yeah, that?s what we are
We should not be together
But we can?t let go, no, no
?Cause we love each other so

Atlantic Starr's only hit.

I sucked on a bit of bone marrow once. I thought it was VILE.

The worse thing I ever sucked though was a Fisherman's Friend.

I'm sorry to be so sexist, I try not to, but only men post like this on MN. Swaggering, showing off and self-justifying with a poncey quote - oh purlease (and yes I did recognise it thanks). Sucking the marrow, my arse. You can live life to the full and savour every second while having a commotted relationship and showing your OH a bit of respect.

You are telling yourself that this is marrow-sucking because deep down you know it is unconscionable dicking around.

oh is sucking the marrow of life a good thing?

So what's your next move? Are you going to split up with DW?

@ ShirleyKnot
OP, quoting someone intellectual does not mean you're not a lying, cheating bastard.

Report
OrmRenewed · 23/07/2010 09:27

You're not sucking the marrow out of life. You are being a self-centred, self-aggrandising, pompous twat.

But it's hardly Thoreau to be having a quick fumble on the side is it?

If it helps you self-justify, then go for it.

This is how so many people justify appalling behaviour imo.

Grow up. You are making yourself sound like a twat, for example.

I thought I'd better tell the OP where my quote was from as that seems to be "The Thing To Do"*

*Quote by Kylie Minogue in Neighbours, 1989

You'd cause less hassle if you did just sod off to the woods. Go on, get your tent and clear off. Swine.

So not only a twunt, but a pretentious, patronising twunt. I hope you have the decency to tell your wife so at least she has the pleasure of booting your arse out.

Henry David Thoreau lived in the woods and survived on what he could forage there. Except he didn't. Apparently he would get his wife to bring him apple pies, whilst broadcasting all this waffle about marrow and Spartans.

You are a very pompous man OP and so was Henry David Thoreau - now clear off to the woods and don't come back.

um, where's your quote from ruthie-baby?

"Swine" is CLEARLY Russell Brand, hanging out of the back of Katy Perry, 2009

Report
ruthosaurus · 23/07/2010 09:34

No, 'tis original!

And not fair on pigs, who never have affairs and definitely don't try and salve their slimy little tiny-dicked consciences by bigging themselves up on Mumsnet.
