Had a rear shunt accident in the latter end of june a 'boy racer' type drove into the back of us at about 20/25mph while we were stopped at a junction.(DS (7) and I were in the back ,ds is fine but the impact was directly behind me and I've ended up with whiplash injuries to my neck and shoulder and I am now having weekly physio.)

At the scene of the accident the guy gave all his details and stated he was insured and that he was sorry blah blah,so we didn't think to call the police to report the accident (no glass or vehicles blocking the road and both could drive away from the scene)

The car we were in was a write off.

Recieved a letter today from solicitor's stating the driver isn't insured and the case is now being transfered for the motor insurance bureau to deal with the claims against him.

The guy lives a few streets away and I know he has been driving this car as I walk past the road he lives on (school run time) and the car is regularly moved or not there.

He also is driving about with a small child going by the 'child on board' signs .

People like him make me sick.

[grrrrrr]

YANBU... I'd dob him in. Chances are if he's uninsured his tax disc is out of date or his tyres are bald etc. Police love pulling in uninsured/untaxed drivers because it's often connected to other offences.

Driver that shunted me wasn't insured. I don't know if my insurer took it up with the police, but he had to pay for my repairs, my hire car and my out of pocket expenses with his own money.

He managed it eventually, at a rate of £10/week.

I can't believe he has the gall to drive about after an accident tbh.

My father was off work for two weeks due to the shunt, has had his car written off and has had to find £££ to buy a new car to get him to work and back as there is no public transport to get him to work at 5am in the morning (rural area). This twat is just driving about carefree and with no insurance .

I really think they should throw the book at uninsured drivers.

I will be reporting him today but no doubt he'll plead poverty and get a tiny fine if the police catch him.

I wasn't sure if the fact that he's shown up in the insurers database of being uninsured that the police haven't been informed by an authority already?

Our tiny rural police station is actually open today so will go down and inform them of his details.Fingers crossed he'll get picked up asap before he causes anyone else anymore pain and distress.

we were hit but an uninsuranced driver a few years ago. He also didnt have MOT, TAX or a lincese!
My car was written off, and i was off work for 3 months. I also got stuck with £400 exess because he didnt have insurance. I lost my no claims bonus too
Police were called at the time along with 3 amberalance and a fire engiene

He however, after failing to turn up to court 3 times got a fine for... wait for it... £150!!!!

Go report him but be warned likely he'll get a small fine

That's disgusting!

Did you go through the Motor Insurance Bureau to claim? They are now handling our cases but I'm not sure how it will pan out tbh.

Report. It is a no brainer.

The next person he crashes in to might not be so lucky.

It's not too late to report him. He'll still get done for having no insurance. Stupid little bastard. I have no issue when these morons kill theirselves in their shitty little twatmobiles, but when other people are involved it's absolutely awful.

Another vote for reporting him. Or go out at the dead of night and stick signs saying 'Uninsured driver' all over his car, with superglue.

hang on
could it be that he genuinely thought he had insurance, did he seem cagey at all?
Maybe it's an honest mistake, and now he has insurance.
I can't imagine having an accident, realising you have no insurance and then staying uninsured
How do you know he has no insurance now?

my car was hit by a car driven by a young girl who was using her dads car as he was on holiday, she gave me her dads details and everytime i phoned he had just gone out or was still hunting for the policy etc, it was refferred to the MIB.
the solicitor that was dealing with it told me he suspected something dodgy was going on and it transpired that there was no insurance policy and she had now gone to live abroad, her dad however was someone high up in the local police force and the day before it went to court a policy magically appeared dated the day before the accident and thru the same company that the police used for their vehicles
they offered to settle but the solicitor declined!
it was nearly a year however before i saw any money but i got my hire car costs and no claims back and also a few hundred for my inconvenience.

It is possible whatname. We thought our car was fully insured until we got a letter saying our car registration had been noted down in an accident where apparently I hit someone and didn't stop. Was in total panic as I knew I hadn't been in an accident. When I looked closel at the letter the reg number they'd stated as our was wrong (although very close) When we checked our insurance documents our reg number was wrong on that too so if we had of actually been in an accident we probably wouldn't have been covered. Genuine but very stupid mistake .

Of course this guy could just be a tit with no insurance

Report him please, if he's driving around at the moment without the proper insurance chances are he's not got other things sorted as well.

Report
sapphireblue · 21/07/2010 16:29

defintely report him. My DH reported an untaxed car that's been parked on our road and it was towed away today..........he did it in a fit of extreme irritation having just forked out for insurance and tax discs for our 2 cars. He shouldn't be able to get away with it and must be pretty daft to think he wouldn't get caught out when he's just been involved in an accident!
