Found out today a friend has a listening thing in her house where her or her husband can call up on the phone and listen to conversations that happne in the house!
They brought it to listen in on the babysitter, but tbh sometimes I babysit, and their DDs do sometimes need telling off. Dont get me wrong I would never hurt them or even yell but they can be a handful, so dont know how teenage babysitter manages. I also dont know if he is using it when Im there talking to his wife or our other friends!

I feel really funny about going there now

I wouldn't babysit there any longer. I'd find it creepy and intrusive not knowing if someone was listening to me. They should trust the people they leave their kids with enough not to need to do this.

thats what I thought too
I was having convosation with other friend while there oday about how this friend sometimes takes advantage of my good nature, eg ask me to have the girls and always arrive late, and then i find out her DH is home but wont come and get them.

why do they need to listen in to the babysitter?

Urgh, I wouldn't even visit, far less babysit! Have you checked for spycams as well?

I'd steer well clear, both as guest and babysitter. I wouldn't be surprised if sooner or later that listening device was used by one partner to discredit the other and I wouldn't want to be there during the fallout.

I think that it's going to turn ugly.

BTW, who in their right mind uses a babysitter whom they don't trust?

Weirdos!

well I know he doesnt trust her, but am pretty shocked to find out they have used it, phoned up and listened to babysitter. He brought it after he heard a babysitter talk harshly to the children while he was on the phone

That is so weird. As Valhalla said, why would you continue to use a babysitter you didn't trust? Unless you're naturally distrustful of everyone, in which case, not really the sort of person i'd want to be friends with.

Seriously weird. God, I talk to myself. Would be horrified at being taped. Stay away.

I'd be tempted to get this for when I have those "No you didn't tell me that" moments with DH

Sounds like a nasty divorce waiting to happen imo.

I wouldn't babysit again and probably tell them why too. If you don't trust the person taking care of your kids don't let them. Not rocket science is it?

That's not normal behaviour What an odd thing to do

"How do I tell her?" How did you find out? I'd just tell her that. There is no way I'd babysit -paid or not - in these circumstances.

In posh nurseries, I gather, they have cams on the kids & staff ALL the time, and parents can log in to see what's going on. I find that ridiculous, but hey. We live in a surveillance society.

Can you ask her where the thingy is and switch it off? Or unplug the phone while you're there [evil grin]?

oh god its like when you get caught out on the dreaded baby monitor moaning about your mum who is down stairs listening to every word and putting her coat on

I would tell her i was not going back into her home
