2DD's age 8 and 2 and half, I am shattered, not long in from work!
Their dad has had them all day, they had a pub lunch (nuggetts and chips), so they could do with a healthy dinner!

I am winding down kitchen as going on hols thur, but have left over chicken, was going to do chicken, mash and frozen carrots/peas.

But I just cannot be bothered to cook, AIBU to give them rolls with a choice of chicken/cheese/tuna??

I would do the sandwiches. Have you got some cucumber, peppers, tomatos etc and fruit to put with them? Health them up a bit.

If it was me, they'd have a cold chicken roll and that would be that! Possibly with some salad added if there was some handy and they wouldn't pick it out. Sandwiches are a healthy food....

Can you sneak some tomato or similar into the sandwiches? But YANBU, one day of not-so-balanced eating won't kill them.

How about sandwiches with the carrots and peas on the side.

Might sound weird, but gets the veg in, isn't much effort and children don't have preconceived notions about what goes with what.

It's too hot for me to cook tonight so the DC are having smoked mackerel, a bit of cheese, tomatoes, cucumber, carrot sticks and a slice of bread. They're not bothered and it was quick for me to throw on a plate.

YANBU to make them a chicken sandwich and just put whatever veg comes to hand beside it on the plate.

Unfortuntaely though are tomato plants are full of tomatoes, they are all still green and hard
So rolld with half tuna/half cheese, the last apples and satsumas, a few bits of celery and thats it

Sounds fine! You've got carbs, protein, dairy, fruit and veg. No worries

One meal not up to your usual standards won't hurt them. They will not wither away.

YANBU there's nothing wrong with what you are giving them, they don't need a hot meal just a balance which they have got from bread, meat, cheese and fruit. OMG it's a lot better than many children get, don't beat yourself up make a cup of tea and watch telly with them for an hour when they have eaten or give them a picnic in the garden or even [shock horro] in front of the telly. Go on be a devil!!!

I give my children sandwiches and fruit for 'dinner' roughly once a week. Don't worry yourself!

It sounds good, and I agree that a hot meal isn't everything. Sandwiches are yummy and can be very healthy

In fact I feel better that Dd3 had a quicky pasta thing, Dd2 [14] is making her own and I am having pizza on the sofa later.
OH on afternoons. We all had a really late night last night cos Dd2 had a concert, hence the lazy tea today, am intending to get them both in bed by 9 so I can go myself. [ Ha fat chance thinks Dd2].
Macdoodle I am glad things worked for you tonight.

Sandwiches and fruit seems perfectly fine.

A cold meal is just as acceptable as a warm meal.

I bet if they had a sandwich and fruit or lunch, you wouldn't be worrying about them having nuggets and chips for dinner, would you?
