AIBU?

to be cross with dw for not taking my advice on buying a new toaster

Dw purchased a new toaster on sunday.
This morning I tried it out and to my dismay I noticed 1" of bread sticking out the top.
Before she left I told her to take a slice of bread to fit into the toasters on display in the shop to see if it was the right size, but she refused.
Now I am going to look a bit of a nob in the returns queue with a toaster in one hand and a slice of bread in the other waiting to explain to the assistant that I want a bigger toaster that fits this slice

It is little things like this that get my goat
Why do some people never listen to good advice?

All she had to do was try the bread in the toasters to see if it was a good fit.Afterall she spends bloody hours trying shoes on
grump

Totally agree, I took a load of dirty underwear with me when I went to buy a new washing machine. And some turkey twizzlers when I went to buy an oven.

youre gunna look like a knob queueing with a slice of bread, she would look like a knob trying slices of bread in the toaster

buy different bread...

have you tried putting the slice of bread on it's side? they usually fit better that way.

So it's okay for DW to look like a knob holding a slice of bread in one hand and a toaster in the other, but not you?

Toast your bread and halfway through turn the bread upside down. That's what I do. Much easier and less cringe worthy than wandering around a supermarket with bits of bread, having every one look like this at you while you pop your bit of bread in and out of toaster display models.

Do you use the same method when buying underwear in a shop?

Report
MissAnneElk · 12/07/2010 14:37

Or you could take the toaster to the supermarket and open a few loaves and try out the different sizes. You won't look like a knob - honest.

it as no room to turn the bread sideways,it is only just wide enough.
Why sould I change my dietry needs?
I am not letting this toaster beet me,I have had dealings with toasters before. If I cannot get the better of an electrical applience it does not say much about my manhood

Dont get me started on underwear

The other day while pegging the washing out I counted 11 pairs of DW knickers

I thought this was rather a lot and when putting them away i countedabout 18 pairs

Who needs that many

In my single days I had 3 pairs

working
best
and
emergency

They where comfortable and so what if you could read a newspaper through them. She threw them out and bought me lots more

Her knickers multiplied in between being hung on the line and being put away? That's impressive.

By the way, do you eat non-standard bread or something? Every toaster I have ever known, from cheapo student Tesco £5 ones to posh ones at grownups houses has always been able to toast an entire piece of normal bread.

No the rest where still in the drawer, they had not been washed and I forgot to count the pair she was wearing

I reckon I have more than 19 pairs of knickers. And I really don't consider myself extravagant.

I have loads more than 19 pairs of knickers and some of them are even the same! In fact, most of them are as I tend to bulk buy them from M&S in 5 or 7 packs.

My toaster fits bread upright and sideways - I made sure I bought one that did (oddly enough without needing to take a piece of bread to the shop with me ). I actually don't understand why some toasters are made too small...

I bought my toaster in Germany and only pixies' bread would fit in it! And it has no extras - only a handle to put the bread up and down. It was about 7 euros in Kaufland. In fact it's so small that half-way through you have to take the bread out and put it back in the other way up. I only use it for guests although it still beats me as to why anyone would want to toast Dutch bread. It's gorgeous - full of seeds and kibbley bits.

if you took a ruler (or something discrete that is the right size) to measure the depth of the toaster, you (or she) may not feel such a knob and might successfully buy an approriately sized toaster.

Jason - I feel that you should really take the responsibility of buying a toaster that suits your needs into your own hands. Have a toaster each - your DW can buy bread to fit hers and you get an uber-massive one to go with your loaf.

19 pairs of knickers?! I counted mine once and had 70-something! I then challenged my mum and cousin to count theirs. My cousin won with 103.
And then we did shoes, handbags, and bath products......bliss.
