Hi

My DD (17mo) has today been diagnosed with lactose intolerance and is on Pepti formula, i was wondering what your experiences were with getting the formula prescribed, did it stop at a certain age ?

Thanks

C

Hi, my ds is now 4 and has been having Pepti since he was about 7 months. I have never had any problems getting it from the GP, I just request a repeat prescription from the chemist.

my DD 22mths is lactose, soya & oat intolerant and is on neocate which she has had since she was 10mths and we just get it on repeat prescription.

Dietician has mentioned she will probably be on it until she is and at least 2.6 then it will depend on how she reacts to small amounts of dairy iyswim.

We had Pepti on prescription til ds1 was 2. Usually roud here they would discontinue at age 1 (leaving you to moe to oat milk etc) but he was small and skinny/underweight so we got it for an extra year. Now he has outgrown that allergy and is still small and underweight but no-one worries about that cause it is obviously just the way he is.

We were told that that they will retest ds2 when he is school age. If he "passes" then great, if not, they will start him on a desensitisation programme that my local academic hospital specialises in (apparently). I would therefore guess they will continue with repeat prescriptions till he is at least 4-5 years. They should be grateful though, Pepti is cheaper than the other hypoallergenic formulae.
