Allergies and intolerances

7.5 mo, bf, milk intolerant - enough milk?

Hi, I posted before in feeding section, but need some more advice / reassurance.
My dd is 7.5 months, bfs 4 times a day, but I think like me & the rest of my family that she's milk intolerant (tried her with it in food a couple of weeks ago & her eczema flared up).
My worry is that when I giver her ebm, she only takes at most 125ml in a feed, which isn't the recommended 600ml total per day. She's eating 3 solid meals a day, plus demands some of anything any adult eats in her sight! Her weight gain's increasing if anything, so that's not a worry.
I do mix soya milk into her foods & give her some soya yoghurt each day, but not sure she's getting enough milk / calcium and fat.
I've tried increasing her bfs, but she'll only take 4 & I can't express more than 100ml per day, whatever pump I use.
Any advice?

total includes yoghurts etc so if you can find yoghurts etc that contain soya milk you can relax if not ask hv for advice!

This is not particularly helpful I know but I had the same trouble with all mine, who were not allowed any milk at all and very limited soya.

What would happen is I would get into a real state about the exact same things as you, I'd talk to the HV, then to the GP, then get referred to the dietician, not feel very reassured there either, fret fret fret . . . then realise that in that time three or so months had passed and they were now over a threshold and needed less calcium anyway. So without anything ever being resolved to my satisfaction they just sort of grew up anyway and are all fine.

According to my calcium sheet, a child of 0-1 year old needs 525mg of calcium a day. After 1 year old this drops to 350mg a day.

I will try to check with my HV when they are allowed Ready Brek but that was my saviour! A bowl of that with a calcium-enriched milk substitute gives them almost all their calcium for the day. But your DD may not be allowed that yet - will try to find out.

If she is putting on weight she is most likely to have enough fat in her diet.

It is my understanding that kids under 1yo shouldn't be having milk at all because their immature digestion has trouble with the lactose. And giving milk too early can cause allergies!

Any type of cultured yoghurt is usually ok because the cultures help break down the lactose. Make sure to avoid cheeses as well as milk.

If she's getting bigger then you're doing it right - stop measuring and trust her little body - she'll tell you if she needs more

Thanks for your advice. I'm feeling better about it after a chat with my mum, who recalled that my brother didn't have hardly any milk (rejected the breast, to her heartbreak, and vomited cows milk) from 8 months. He's 6 foot 4 now & strong as an ox, so I guess I'll just have to trust DD to take what she needs.

I am giving her soya yoghurts and ready brek - my HV said from 6 months & she loves it, so hopefully that'll cover it.

Thanks again.
