Allergies and intolerances

Wanting to start BLW in a month, but lots of allergies in DH's family. Do I need to consider them?

DD is 6mths in Dec and I'm returning to work in Jan so I'd like to start introducing some foods when she hits 6mths.
However I'm not sure how much I need to take DH's family allergies into consideration.

DH has chronic hayfever, MIL is gluten intolerant, several others have eczema, and SIL & her daughter have nut allergy.
Some people have said I don't need to worry as they're not direct rels (except DH of course) but the fact that DH has hayfever makes me think he has the family allergy 'tendency' which could still have been passed onto DD whatever the allergy IYSWIM.

Any advice about how careful I need to be would be appreciated.
Also, if I have to restrict, which would be the main foods? I certainly wouldn't give nuts for ages, but I would like to give dairy for calcium as I want to carry on BF and I'm not sure if I'll be able to provide enough EBM for when DD is with childminder.
Any thoughts please!!

When I say dairy I mean yogurt and cheese; I know I can't give cow's milk to drink yet.

You can get calcium from other sources. Although I can't remember where from (which isn't much help).

Thanks BH...I didn't know that they had calcium, they don't seem like they should have! Luckily broccoli is one of the things DD will get offered a lot as we love it and it's got a 'handle' for her to hold!

as long as you keep the milk feeds, your dd should get enough calcium from them, she needs at least 1 pint a day until she is 1 (not sure what happens after that!).

has your child displayed any ezcema ?, asthma?, poor weight gain?, poor sleep pattern etc? esp before the age of three months?

If not, I think giving formula would be ok, for a precaution you may want to ask GP for advice.

But may only want to prescribe once problem appears,
no one can predict if your child is going be allergic and if they are , which type of allergy your child has.

You can only work out that they may be at a higher risk than others.

There are formulas for both intolerant and classic allergic infants.

If your child is bonny and healthy I would still go ahead with BLW , with one food at a time, slowly building up to three meals a day.

At that stage you could carry on breastfeeding early morning , evening and night.

A mid afternoon milk may be required, so perhaps use formula for that?
