Could ds be allergic to conifer trees???????

Went to wonderland today and in a maze ds rubbed his hands across the conifer trees and within minutes his face had become red and blotchy and one side was really swollen

I gave him piriton straight away it didn't clear straight away and has still got a few spots.

Is it worth mentioning to consultant??

Has anyone else heard of allergy to conifer trees??

I have a sensitivity to blue spruce not sure if its a true allergy but brings me up in a rash if I touch it. But not all conifers.

I have a slight contact allergy with them. It just goes away after a while.

Yes - I have a contact allergy to most

My dad has quite severe asthma attacks - so tends to avoid them

Is there any chance of anaphlaxis to them ds suffers these type of reactions with many foods.

I am allergic to real Christmas trees, ie fir trees.

They make me really itchy and blotchy

I wouldn't feed him any pine nuts. Has he had allergy tsting for nuts? If not I would ask about it, swollen faces need to be taken seriously, I'm afraid.

He doesn't have nuts as is allergic to peanuts, fish and eggs. He's only been tested for those plus milk and wheat.

unfortunately if your child has a nut allergy they are quite likely to develop a tree nut allergy and an allergy to pine nuts (even though they are seeds). How old is he? If he's only been tested once he should have a retest sometime anyway so you could ask for a general tree nut screen, pine nut, sesame and lupine tests. If he doesn't currently have an epipen I would go and ask for a new referral.

Might be worth phoning wonderland and asking what type of conifer it was.

conifers give me the worst hayfever symptoms i get. i only to their pollen, so it isn't a year round problem.

my dd2 has anaphalactic reactions to peanuts, she also tested positive to one type of tree. The specialist said that these reactions would not be anaphalactic.

Isn't that awful I can't even remember what type of tree it was. I think i was in such a state at the appointment (she had just had the peanut reaction) that I couldn't take in the information.

She has never had any reaction to trees since, and I always watch her carefully when she is in woods etc to see if she has any reaction.

Has your lo had a blood test? - i was told it might tell us the severity of the allergy - haven't decided wether to go for it yet.

yeah ds has got an epi-pen

He has had the blood rast test to confirm his other allergies.
