im pg with number 6,and for the last couple of months, certain things i have eaten have made my tongue swell and leaves red lumpy patches.they really hurt for about an hour after ive eaten, and do go down but the sore red patches stay there for about a week.

ive never had anything like this before, and never thought it was what i was eating taht could be causing it (sounds daft considering it happens as im eating i know!)

last week i had beans on toast and it happened, and yesterday i had a scone with starwberry jam and clotted cream (id been craving!!)and i couldnt finish it as my tongue hurt so much.

dont suppose anyone else has had this happen and theyve found out the cause?hoping someone can help!

I've not had this recently but for years whenever I ate fresh strawberries, the normal skin on my tongue would start peeling off in large white patches. It was only when I ate strawberries (I noticed you mentioned SB jam?)

Hi there buffy, it does sound like an allergy, a swelling tongue is a worry as it could lead to anaphylaxis where the thorat also swells and restricts breathing (life threatening) I'd make an appointmnt asap to see your GP and ask him/her to give you a sensitivity test to see exactly what you are sensitive to.

Make sure you have some piriton in your cupboard, Piriton should not really be given to pregnant women but if you need it you need it (I had some when I was pregnant)

lentils make me feel bloated and baked beans make my tongue sore too. I think I have an intolerance to pulses - including soya and peas. My problems started with yoghurts - muller corners - vanilla ones I love with the choc balls! Anyway, they made my throat itchy and the choc balls felt like they were stuck in my throat - only it was not the balls stuck, it was my throat going into lumps.
I am better at dealing with all these things now. But tomato sauce makes me get ulcers too! And too much sugar al well as salt and orange juice!
Definatley steer clear of anything you think you might be allergic too. Apparently the more you eat of these things, the worse the reaction. AND pregnancy makes you less tolerant I think as I am more tolerant now.

Forgot to mention that muller fill their yoghurts with soya!

tartan i noticed that the roof of my mouth also gets really itchy aswell.and come to think of it the last time i had pure orange juice,my tongue swelled and blistered.

im trying to keep a note of when it happens and what ive eaten.

hillary, going to gps next week (if i can get an appointment!) so will ask about sensitivity test aswell

lucie, the jam dh got yesterday was an organic one from tesco, and it was very strawberryish!!and i definately think it was the strawberry and not the scone or cream (better be,taht way i can still have a scone with cream!!!)

tahnk you fro all your replies!

sounds like some tests are needed. As you're pregnant make sure you have probiotics as they will reduce the risk of your child getting problems like eczema.
