Allergies and intolerances

porridge and acid poo

My ds keeps getting very acidy poo and nappy rash whenever he has porridge/oats.

Could this signify a reaction to gluten? I'm having investigation (sigmoidoscopy) of bum trouble and more and more I'm beginning to put it down to gluten 'issues'.

No history of allergy for me or family at all. I'm 32.

??

Hi Newlifenewname, my dd had exactly the same reaction to porridge oates, I kept her on a gluten free diet for 8 months and now she is fine with gluten.

His tummy may not be qutipt yet to deal with cereals, you could cut it out then re-introduce it a couple of times leaving a significant gap in between each time to see how he reacts.

Hi Hills

Thanks for interesting reply. Ds is 2 now so I'ma little worried that, as you say, his tum still isn't able to deal with oats.

He doesn't eat much pasta but seems okay with it - and bread hasn't caused any MAJOR prbs yet (does for me!)

It could well be an intollerance. Does he get tummy ache/pains too? Cereal is a difficult thing for alot of people to digest, I'd say take him to the gp and get him tested to be sure, It may just be oates, not wheat etc
