no idea what what the patch test involves, soory. Dd2 had the RAST test done last month, waiting for her next appointment in may to get the results, but my thread on it was met with the same respone. Hopw it goes ok.

i think they test for the basics plsu anything you may have said you thought she was allergic to.

how is dd's eczema btw?

Well ds's appt goes as follows

see dr to discuss alleries/what to test for etc

wait to have skin pricks from nurse,you should tell the dr what you would like her to be tested for eg.eggs/dustmite/cats etc

skin oricks takes a few minutes then you wait for about 15 minutes to get them read,then you have to wait and see the dr again.

Usually takes us about 2 hrs in all


They can test for something only if they have a sample to use in the skin prick test,so for example they'll have all the usual stuff like nuts etc but may not have obscure things like hmmm can't think of an example/

sorry - saw this too late. But a search of the allergy section would, I think, have shown similar questions before. If you've left I hope they had some antihistamine cream for you.

"normal" allergy tests can take half a day by the time you've sat around waiting for skin prick tests, giving them time to work, seeing the consultant to discuss the results and having blood tests. No idea what they'll do for you.

Never heard of that type of test but I'd want to know what to do if the area under the disk started to swell a lot - do you untape it?

poor child, having to go through that. Can she take antihistamine after the tests? We have an antihistamine cream we use after skin prick tests but I can't find the box to see what's in it.

Has anyone talked to you about probiotics and trying a different milk for eczema? Or oats in the bath/ frequency of washing? Sometimes they can help and if she didn't need emolients as much it wouldn't be as much of a problem.

When a good allergy consultant tests the first time they normally do not only the thing you think is a problem but also other ones that are commonly linked to it. So if you have a child with a food allergy they might test other allergens in the same family or do a nut test. My child (who has a severe nut allergy) got tests that included pets and dust mite, although we hadn't asked for those.

Yes you can't use piriton until the tests are over but you want to have some handy as soon as they finish as any positives will itch. My child still had bumps the next day after the last tests - and that was after the piriton.
