hi my dd2 was diagnosed as having reflux at a few weeks old. we have controlled the symptoms by putting her on enfamil a.r which meant when she was sick it was thicker and not as bad as her projectile vomiting.

she is now on solids and i have found that she is really sick if i give her anything containing dairy butter, yoghurt.

but she can tolerate packet creamy porridge which contains milk protein i dont know if it is different to dairy in the purer form but she isnt sick on it.

the gp has said she must come off enfamil at 1 yr old and im worried as to what milk to give her as it wont have the thickner in it and she wont be able to go onto cows milk.

any help please. xxxx

Is it possible she may have in ontolerence to cows milk?

Not there yet with DS2 but we found DS1's reflux greatly improved around a year when it was time to move to cows milk and the transtion went ok. Have you spoken to your HV about this at all, I'd have thought a HV is more knowledgeable about milks than a GP. If it remains a problem what about adding gaviscon to the cows milk?

DD had reflux and was also on enfamil. I was concerned about the transition too.

I built up a stock of enfamil from when DD turned 10 months (had about 15 tins in cupbord).
I then gave her enfamil as a drink and continually used cows milk in cooking and gave cheese etc. I realised that just because DD was being sick it was more the reflux and not an intolerence. DD is now 16 months and is on cows milk full time and is still sick occassionally. Im not sure what causes this but im sure its because of the reflux.
You can buy enfamil if you really want to keep your DD on it. Place order with chemist.

DS1 is still mildly sick a few times per day and he's 2.5yrs now - I'm told he'll 'gow out of it' - hope so, it stinks!

telling me it stinks! DD did it all over me today! lmao sorry if tmi!!
Reflux is due to a slack muscle on the stomach (in laymans terms!) and it can take years for muscle to strenghten so unless you DD is showing signs of allergy (resh etc) to milk then i would advise to continue and perservere.

You can get a thickener for cows milk - works like cornflour in cooking (you can use it for that too) and is called Thick 'n' Easy. Not sure how readily it is prescribed over here but is used in SCBU's.

Can you not add gaviscon to cows milk? I did the same as bonkerz to introduce it to DD1.
If you do want some enfamil Ar I have about 4tins left over oyu can have for the postage?

thanks 4 everyones comments- really good to know im not the only one to experience this problem.

i would happily keep her on enfamil after 1 yr but the gp said that she shouldnt be on it for more than 6 mths.

she has been on it since she was about 3 mths old so already over the 6 mth period. i did ask why she couldnt have for longer than 6 mths and was told it wouldnt do her any good? am not sure what they mean.

has anyone else kept their little ones on it for longer?
