Well, just over a week ago I got myself a nice Juicer and after reading Jason Vales fab Juicing book started a Journey to anew healthier me...well, healthy glowing skin and whatnot- my arse-...I am pretty blotchy and itchy and am now on Telfast 180mg tablets and got emoilient bath, and have to use my effing steroid creams and ointments again...used to suffer with Eczema, but haven't had a problem in like 4 years.
I don't have any food allergies, and have juiced nohting that I wouldn't eat...albeit some things like Fennel and Asparagus I tend to eat steamed, ratehr then raw!
I haven't had a fruitjuice since last Friday, but have still had 2 veggie juices (one saturday and one today), and dospite the meds it isn't getting better (before I saw the doctor I already started with my own antihistamin drops (that are specially for skin allergies, like hives/nettlefever) and hydrocortison....!
I wonder what it could be and why I react so badly on raw fresh juice.
Fruits I did juice in that week were:
Grapefruit
oranges
Tangerines
Kiwi
Apples
Pineapples
(the only things I don't eat very often are Grapefruit and Oranges....but have not used them since a week ago...so, if it was them, would I steel have a bad rash, a week later????)

Vegetables I juiced
Fennel
Carrots
Spinach
Asparagus
Celery (blurgh...like twice and decided that I like it even less raw in a juice then cooked in a soup, lol)

and also juiced Gingerroot

Could I react to Fennel so badly?

Anyone else done JUicing and didn't get the promised glowing skin?

Should I simplyfy the juicecombinations...i.e. juice just carrots for a few days, then add one more ingredients, etc....

Are their people that simply can't drink fresh raw juice, i.e. is there somehting else i raw juice that could give me such bad effects....?
Anyone in the know?

There are some tablets that you cant have grapefruit juice with. I cant remember what they are. Are you on medication for bloodpressure or anything?

Earlier the itchyness became much worse again, but not sure if it was to do with the 24h being almost over, since I had taken that Telfast (it's a one dose a day one) or if it had anyhting to do wiht the Juice I had this lunch time, which consited of Carrot/Fennel/Spinach/Cucumber....surely I can't be blinking allergic to any of those...sigh!

If you are drinking juice, you are probably getting more of particular fruits and vegetables than you would normally get, by eating them raw.

Also, some of these (e.g. asparagus) you may never eat raw, anyway.

I've not had a reaction to juicing, but what little exzema I have isn't triggered by diet. I'd simplify the combinations and see what happens. And also not have quite so much.

Oh, and I'd worry that maybe pesticides etc (natural or otherwise) are part of the problem?

well, I have been washing the stuff thoroughly and sort of went by the Juicemasters guidelines of preparation....
I didn't think that I was overdoing it really, obviosuly have gotten more then my 5 a day in me, but that is somehow the point, I suppose...but about a medium glass of fruitjuice when I had that, or mixed as a milkshakeysmoothie thing maybe a pint glass full, and a pint of vegjuice (like 4-6 carrots-1/4 cucumber-small bulb of fennel-2handful spinach...and the carrots tend to be organic ones....!
Hohum...I jsut can't believe that I am reacting so badly....like I said, I never had food allergies....bohoohoo

Could it be the ginger? Although oranges can be quite harsh sometimes. I dont know what to suggest. I have a juicer but i only ever juiced apples, celery, carrots, bland stuff really.

Have you also used a herbal type bodywash, shampoo etc? My d has had a skin reaction to Nitty Gritty (!), she has had it once before - can't work out which herb it is.

nope, washing/skincare wise I didn't change anyhting...wash wiht non bio and use vinegar as conditioner, Grapeseed oil wiht a few drops of Lavender in the bath, emoileitn creams, etc....hohum!
I use all that sort of thing, cos of my tendency to eczema...!
I shall just do carrotjuice for a few days and go from there...see how my body reacts, I suppose...

My dd has loads of food allergies and eczema. Just wanted to let you know that our allergist did tell us that where allergies are concerned you react more to things in their raw state rather than once cooked. Just incase you have a mild allergy to something that you usually eat in its cooked form and therefore do not tend to notice any symptoms? Just a thought. Oh and my dd is actually allergic to carrots! lol, it can be something you least expect! I think it can take a long time to get it out of your system once something aggrevates your skin. My daughters hives tend to come up fairly quick to indicate a reaction but do go fairly quickly, however the itching tends to keep up for hours. yeah, good idea to introduce foods slowly and keep a little food diary and note when you become more itchy ect. May show something fingers crossed.

thank you cmt...I had wondered if it was the rawness of it, and possibly it being in juiced form, therefore easier digestable, which obviously is the point of juicing, but could then, I suppose be my problem...argh...I just don't believe it, lol!
Thank you very much for your reply, though...helps to get opinions and info of others

I have read somewhere that 'juicing' isn't as healthy as you think, apparently by juicing fruit and vegetables you change the structure of the sugars in the food from a 'healthy' sugar into a 'not so healthy' sugar potentially causing skin problems due to the excess of 'not so healthy' sugar. It struck a cord with me as during a health kick I was doing I was drinking a lot of smoothies (home made ones as well) and I suddenly developed a horrible flaky scalp that I have not been able to get rid of to this day

Powder28, it's antihistamines you can't have with grapefruit. They can cause very severe problems I think.
