Wheat free for kids?

Has anyone got any advice please? My ds is trialling wheat free and we're wondering if there are any tips and tricks we should know about? The bread seems very dry is that normal? Thanks in advance.

The bread is pretty inedible as bread, much better toasted. The part baked baguettes and rolls are best, preferably still warm.
If you are wanting to take something out with you wraps are better than sandwiches.
Supermarket own brand pasta and Doves farm pasta are good, don't over cook them and don't do pasta bakes, they go a bit mushy.
M&S is good for child friendly GF bits ( chicken goujons, sausages, burgers).

Thank you for the advice glad it's not just me who noticed that about the bread. Will try the wraps instead. Haven't seen parbaked rolls yet, where do you get these from?

The bread makes ok toast but it's hard to stomach as a sandwich unless the filling is quite moist. I've found burgen seeded the nicest. Wraps and sandwich thins are a great alternative. You can buy mixes for cakes, or I've had no problems substituting doves farm gf flour in normal recipes-they have a lovely recipe for brownies!
Gf pasta is ok, once it's got sauce on its hard to tell the difference.
Rice and rice noodles are wheat free obviously.
As pp mentioned m&s do a good range, I've also in the past bought a really nice pizza base from there although my branch hasn't had this recently so maybe it's discontinued. Hmm

One suggestion I'd make is think about what his favourite things to eat are and adapt these as a priority so he's less likely to feel he's missing out. Different shops stock different things so look in all the supermarkets free from sections.

Thank you so much Smile

Is it OK to use corn flour in e.g. white sauces, or wouldn't that work very well?

Glutafin fresh prescription bread brown and white are by far the best, we get it on prescription and freeze

Warbutons wraps or sandwich thins are great for pizza bases

Tesco and Morrisons have good ranges especially for the treats in life like donuts and choc fudge cake

Again I use doves farm gluten free flour to make sauces for things like lasagne, Mac n cheese or cauliflower cheese. Never had a problem! Also used it to make lovely pancakes, the texture of things is different, lighter I suppose but I've never had a failure at anything I've attempted.
