hi,
my 5 month old son has a milk allergy and has been prescribed pepti-junior, however he refuses to drink and gags when we give it to him, we have tried mixing it with breast milk in varying quantities, but he will not drink it!! ( i dont blame him it smells foul) HOWEVER my GP has suggested giving him soya milk instead but i have noticed on mums net that a few of you have mentioned there may be a link to infertility and soay so i was womndering if any of you knew of any credible info i can read up on and speak to my GP about.
I really need my ds2 to be taking some other milk other than my breast milk as i cannot express enough to keep up with him while im at work and hes at nursery!!
any help appreciated, thank x

I am no expert on this but dd2 has milk allergy and ds8mths has had milk trials etc. But I do know they wont prescribe Soya infant Formula to boys any more due to the high levels of natural oestrogen in the milk.

My dd hates soya to drink so she has Rice Dream in fact I prefer it too as its vpleasant. Its not suitable as infant Formula though but I use it a lot in cooking for all of us,inc the baby.

Is your ds tolerant of goat's milk? As you can get Nanny formula which is good.

hi, hes not been tried on goats milk. where can you get rice dream from? i've not heard of it before. my hv didnt seem to worried about him refusing to drink it, as by the time he goes to nursery for a full time day he wont be drinking as much milk and i will still be bf am and pm feeds so only lunch he will have something else to drink, he is quite happy to eat pepti junior mixed with babyrice and veg or fruit so he will still be getting some milk to make his amounts up at least.
i think i worry abit too much. !! my ds1 has never been allergic to anything or had any problems so im not used to all this!!
thanks for your reply

I have heard this too, but then again being chinese we drank a lot of it as children and many kids in HK and China drink it and well we know they don't have a fertility problem???? But then again this could be because the chinese have built up a natural immunity to it or something!

Trying2begood Yes its odd isnt it? I wonder if its anything to do with so much soya being non organic?

wwwland, Rice Dream is available in every supermarket by the UHT milk. Big carton white and Blue. Get the added calcium one. Tastes lovely. But a bit sweet for a lot of savoury cooking like mash etc ! But it does contain sea salt.

Get an appointment with your local dietician in hospital to advise you on him being so young though.
