Looking for some advice before I visit the GP. my DS is 16 months and was diagnosed as allergic to cow's milk protein at about 7 months when I started weaning and he had hives and was sick. Since then, we've been diary free (me too as I breastfeed). However, he's always been quite a sicky boy. He's often been sick after eating and we've put it down to a sensitive gag reflex. However, he's getting better at chewing now and doesn't gag as much but is still very often sick after or during a meal. He'll then want to continue to eat and won't be sick again. Over the past few days he's been sick at least twice a day - quite large amounts of vomit too, not just a little blob. Does it sound as though there's another allergy? He does not have a rash or hives or diarrhoea and generally wants to continue eating after he's been sick, which is gross!! Does anyone have any ideas?

Sid, we have allergies in our house which have very different symptoms. It's possible there are other allergies too. it's really hard to know, though, without doing a food trial - ie go without the food in question for several weeks, then reintroduce it and see what the reaction is. Are you doing a food diary? Very useful - write everything down that he eats, and when, and every reaction, and when, and you might see a pattern over time. Often it's not what you think it might be (eg we're allergic to many of the gourds; things like butternut squash and courgette, and legumes like peas and beans and chickpeas). Reactions are different for lots of the different foods DS is allergic to (eg wheat he shows no external signs that i recognised, but never ever slept through, and kept getting ear infections which burst his eardrums about every 3 weeks - would have happily kept eating wheat, though, if i hadn't stopped him for a food trial).

Thanks mayfair I've started keeping a diary so will continue for a couple of weeks. It's so hard to know! He loves his food and it's horrible that he's being so sick. Thanks for your advice
