Sticky eyes when waking up - allergy?

Hi all,

This may seem obvious but got my son a new duvet and a new pillow. Since then he has woken up with slightly sticky eyes, like the onset of conjuntivitus (sp?). It goes within an hour of waking up.

Am going to use different pillow / duvet and see if that helps, but is this a sign of an allergic reaction to something?

I would of thought so. Does the pillow or duvet contain feathers? Is it made with something different than his last duvet and pillow?

My son also had gungy eyes one one or two occasions, we cleared it after working out the following:
it could be that before being packaged the bedding got exposed to dust/dust mites could be the problem wash the bedding on a 60 degree wash with usual washing powder to clear this. Or is he is allergic to the paint in the pattern/dye in the pillowcase, did you wash them before putting them onto the bed to clear any residual dye?

My dd3 often wakes up with sticky eyes when she has a cold. They clear up when the cold does.

Thanks all,

I think I'll follow your advise and wash the bedding saffymum and then try it again. The new duvet is not feathers but is an acclimatiser one that has wool in it.

I guess I'll have to swap it if it doesn't go after a wash.

Thanks again
