Allergies and intolerances

Confused about cmp intolerance and breastfeeding

I have a 6.5 month old dd who was exclusively bf (apart from two bottles of formula at one day old) until I started to wean her onto solids at almost 6 months. She had an allergic reaction to porridge with cows milk in it, and I discovered she had a cmp allergy. She was quite refluxy as a newborn and had rashes from time to time but nothing serious, I just assumed she was the same as all newborns. Midwives, HVs and GP all said it seemed normal. anyway, I have continued to bf alongside giving (non dairy) food, with the occasional bottle of nutramigen. However I have not cut dairy out of my diet and am now wondering if I should? I tried for a day or two and it was SO HARD so I decided it wasn't worth continuing for no obvious reason. But I obviously will do anything I need to if I am potentially causing harm to my dd.

HVs and GP s have been frankly uninterested and unhelpful so I feel a bit lost. Advice and information online is conflicting. Any help much appreciated!

My 3 month old has CMP and is BF. I had to cut out all dairy from my diet as caused rashes, explosive nappies & worsened reflux. Our HV also useless but GP slightly better & has referred us to dietician. It may be that your LO doesn't react as badly as could tolerate it through breast milk and can handle nutrimigen. My DS reacts to this formula also.

I have heard that if you continually given CMP the body will not grow out of the intolerance as keeps being sensitised to it? Hopefully someone else will be along soon ego knows if this is correct.

Bumping this for you, I'm in a similar situation and would love to hear views from others. Going to GP tomorrow to ask for prescription formula so I can use that in cooking and try some bottles as DD is starting nursery this week and I don't think I'll be able to express enough for them to give her.

Will continue to bf though and am also confused about what I should avoid, she sounds very similar to your DD in terms of reflux/minor rashes, but nothing that obviously pointed to a reaction to dairy in my diet. Have tested cows milk, normal formula, lactose free formula and yoghurt on her arm, all give her nettle rash.

GP confessed to knowing very little, hence the lactose free formula which he insisted I try. Need to basically tell him what to do. Ideally I'd like a referral but he's reluctant until she's older. I may try to insist though, otherwise I'm worried I might put her at greater risk.

Is nutrimigen a prescription formula? I've seen an aptamil one that I thought I could ask for, pepti I think? Is there a standard one that's recommended?

Some babies are more sensitive to allergens through breastmilk than others.

Does DD have any skin, gasto or respiratory problems? If so I would recommend cutting dairy out of your diet.

However, if you decide not to cut it out I've been told the exposure to allergens through breastmilk is still better than formula.
