Diagnosing Delayed Action Allergy - Diagnosis & Cutting Out 2 Foods Together ??

DD was hospitalised with severe stomach trouble back in June, turned out to be a blockage made worse by Allergic Colitis - they kept her in for a couple of weeks monitoring & Movicol treatment - big improvement in IBS since :)

We were told her blood showed Immunoglobin E response of 3,500 instead if 10ish, so a bad delayed allergy to something - told to cut out all CMP

We then get discharge notes, that say she's allergic to Dairy & Soy & to cut out BOTH Which after asking discharge nurse if this was right, we have done - not realising that this is probably an exclusion diet ??

Since been told by Nursing friend & Doctor friend that this sounds wrong, the only way to check this sort of allergy is by exclusion diet & therefore cutting out 2 unlinked food groups for months, makes no sense - tried to speak to Gastro Drs secretary, but never had a reply after several tries.

DD has eaten a little CMP once at a party - she was fine,

She ate Soy by accident when I got caught out by a white bread roll - stomach flared up badly fir a couple of days, very bloated within 30 minutes & IBS

We finally have her follow up appointment tomorrow & I'm wondering how to handle it - any advice appreciated please

The best thing would be to cut out dairy and soya for 2 months.

After 2 months, reintroduce either dairy or soya, one week apart, and see what happens

Just tell the consultant what happened when you gave her soya. The thing is if she is allergic to soya, she is very very likely to be allergic to CMp too, as the proteins are very similar.

Thank you Change -

That now makes sense as to why discharge notes said to cut out the 2 together - Which we have done bar 1 accident & 1 party where there was only pizza or meat & DD is veggie, so she thought scraping the cheese off the top of the pizza would be enough, which obviously it wouldn't be

Our GP didn't know & said to ring the consultant, which we tried, but it was only after our 2 medical friends said that it sounded wrong, as ITO it should be 1 food at a time, that we questioned it.

Thanks again Flowers

I should have said - we had a LOT of problems with the hospital when DD was there, so lost trust in them to get it right - though once we did see the main Gastro Doctor, he was great, but he wasn't writing the discharge notes & it contradicted what he had told us - hence why it was easy to believe this was wrong -

it is possible to be allergic to soy and not cmp or allergic to cmp and not soy. I would discuss this with her consultant x

I'm really hoping that's the case ukey as the 2 together are difficult to say the least, especially for a vegetarian & that's with my cooking most stuff from scratch anyway

Saw the Gastro specialist today & he thinks that it's more likely just soy now, especially seeing that it's something we were eating a lot if in various forms - been told to let her have dairy & monitor it & stop if her stomach trouble flares up again - she was so happy to have cheese again, me too as calcium has been difficult and expensive - fingers crossed he's right :)

That's great to hear, there's nothing like cheese :-)

If it flairs up again, you'll probably know soon enough.

So far so good :)

Her "pizza face" last night was a joy to behold, she's not had a proper one in months - followed by bananas & custard, so was so happy, I'm just hoping there's no build up reaction, fingers crossed, but it's looking very promising :)
