Hello,

We have just decided to get out of town and stay at English seaside for 5 days.
My DS has lots of food allergies, wheat, eggs, dairy, sesame, peanuts, tree nuts, lentils, etc etc.

So we are staying at self-catering place.

I am so selfish and fee bad to say this, but I am feeling that this is not my holiday as I am constantly thinking about his food, next meal to cook.

I am annoyed with myself being so worked up about cooking.

I wish I can relax more...

This is our first family holiday.
How do you enjoy and relax with holiday with multiple food allergy kids?

Any advice welcome!

Hi.

I totally understand how hard and frustrating it is. Not being able to go out for a meal wherever you fancy etc.... My son had wheat, dairy and egg allergies when he was little too, so we also only went on self catering holidays.

All I can say is...... Keep meals as quick and simple as possible. I know he's only little but try to get him to help to prepare the meals in some way. When you are out and about take plenty of snacks. If you want to eat out, take food with you that your son can eat. I found restaurants to be very helpful and understanding in this regard.

The more you do it, the more it becomes second nature.

And don't feel bad. It is normal to feel as you do. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to change it. Just try to stay positive.

I hope you enjoy your holiday!

Karen x

Hi Karen,
Thank you very much for your kind reply.

I feel better today when I saw my son really enjoying this holiday.

Really good idea that get my son involved with preparing meals, even when not on holiday.

I would

Yes, I will keep doing until this is my second nature.

My son has a very similar list of allergies apart from the wheat. We've never let it stop us eating out. We usually go to chains where they have an allergy list we can check in advance e.g. Nandos, wagamama, pizza express.

Most restaurants we have been to are usually very willing to make an alternative that DS can have and if the worst comes to the worst he just has chips!

We always go self catering a pack lunches/meals. We keep it simple - pasta with sauce, tuna pas, fish fingers, finger veg, cous cous. We only make things that can be shoved on and hardly watched while we get ready.

Thank you very much for all your replies.
I am encouraged by your post to try to eat out more often.
I was bit embarrassed after posting the weepy post.
I am glad I did. It's great to hear from you.

Thanks again!
