hi ive got a dd2 3 wk old who has 3 days ago come out in a really angry looking rash mostly on her forehead but has now spread to her cheeks and chin and she has some on her head and back of her neck. they are red raised spots with white centres. i took her to the doc who said it looked like baby excma and prescribed aveeno cream. i have been using cream twice daily for 2 days now and the rash/spots seem to be getting worse and shes getting more and more on her face. me and dh are wondering if she is allergic to sma gold. but she didnt have spots when i was in hosp but she had ready made sma gold for about 2 wks. ive only just started using the sma gold powder. could this be it? im thinking i could try using ready made again for a week and see if there is any improvement. i will try and get a home visit from a health visitor mon. as i had a c-section i cant drive yet so cant get to the clinic. any advice help please im quite worried as it looks really sore. x

Could be a form of baby acne reacting to the falling hormone levels after delivery which is fairly common, sensitivity to toiletries such as Johnsons bath which ds reacted to, heat/sweat rash or an early form of eczema which may simply pass over the next few weeks. The cream may take a little longer to work or the problem may right itself in time so try not to panic.

really common. All mine got it, DS2 got it particularly badly and was given Diprobase cream and it cleared up within a few days. He did turn out to suffer from eczema though :( Not saying that your DD will have eczema, as I said my other two got it too and they dont suffer with eczema.

thanks lizs and poppiesinaline- i feel a bit less worried now. just to know that it is quite a common problem makes me feel better. it does look like acne but with white heads.x

my DD had this - looks just like acne - lasted from about 2.5weeks to 8wks

DS (2 weeks) has this kind of rash. midwife told me (without me asking about it) that it was perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

My dd's both had this. I was advised to put aqueas cream on dd2 and I was very sceptical but it cleared it up when other creams had failed. It does look sore but is one of those things it seems.

i was told that they were hormonal spots from me. They cleared up after about a fortnight

ds had this. Looks great on the photos, not.

It went away at around 6 weeks or so.

I got told to put aqueous cream on it by one HV, but my lovely HV said not to bother and so I used nothing and it went away by itself as predicted Smile.

the hv came and saw dd2 today and said it looks like eczema. ive been using the aveeno cream for 4 days and the rash still looks bad. the hv said to take her back to the doc tom but doc said to me to use the cream for 2 wks and if no improvement to go back. i think that if i went back to early they would say that i havent given the cream a chance to work. but hv said it looks like it could be an infected type of eczema which needs a stronger cream. what does everyone think? i dont want to wait 2 wks for it to get worse. x

If it is infected you may need a mild cortisone cream which would probably be prescription only. It is often trial and error as to what works. As hv has suggested you go back sooner rather than wait then you may as well. I doubt you've much to lose other than he may yet say to wait and see.
