How long?

My 8mth old ds is dairy free after getting blotches from baby porridge and subsequent milk products.

I am currently breastfeeding and he has some itchy patches of eczema on his chest and shoulders.

I am going to give up dairy in my diet to see if it helps the eczema. Does anyone know how long it takes for the cmp to leave my system and then leave his? How long should it be before I hopefully see an improvement in his eczema?

Hi Melonribena, sorry I dont know the answer to this. Hopefully someone else will be able to tell you.

All I can say, with my DS when he was one I had to remove dairy for a few months before I saw a good result and then he was eczema free after 4 months. It is maybe not so long for others. My ds's eczema is very stubborn and does not go quickly.

Good luck x

Thank you! Did you change to soya milk? I wasn't sure if to avoid that too.

Hi, I am no expert on this and I was not breastfeeding at the time. I changed to nannycare goats milk formula for ds and this made a huge difference. He is 4 now and has some goats milk foods and some soya milk foods in his diet. He doesnt drink milk, except chocolate oat milk.

You could always try goats milk but I know this does not work for everyone. And I dont think goats milk is suitable for babies under 12 months old.

Someone more knowledgeable on this will have some better advice for you. I remember how stressed I was when I was changing his milk. I consulted a practitioner of natural medicine and it was him who told me to change to nannycare goats milk.

I should say that he only drinks the chocolate oat milk occasionally as a special treat!

Hello, sorry I didn't see this earlier. It takes about a fortnight for the milk protein to leave your system, and can then take another fortnight or so for it to leave your baby's system. However, you may well see some improvement much sooner than that.

Thank you all! What type of milk do you recommend if I also bypass soya?

Thanks. I'll go and buy some tomorrow. Can ds have it too? Sorry for all the questions

Yes, your DS can have Oatly too, but not as a replacement for breast feeding.

Koko milk is also quite good, I think it's better in tea than Oatly.

Hi melonribena Smile
My bf ds (now 15 months) is also dairy-free and soya-free (plus a few others!) I have also been free of them for a year now.
Oatly (oat milk) is lovely on cereals and to drink, your lo can have it on or in food too. I prefer Rice Dream (rice milk) for tea/coffee but not suitable for under-5s as there's a risk of arsenic poisoning at that age! There's also hazelnut and almond milks, etc.
Around half the children who cannot tolerate dairy will also be unable to tolerate soya as the proteins are very similar. It is probably best to exclude both, then trying to add soya back in if you want to.
Good luck - and well done for continuing to breastfeed Smile

Thanks everyone for your good advice! I will try Oatly and also give it a go with my ds with his morning porridge!
