My ds is 6 and in yr 1, he's suffered from eczema since he was a baby but its been much worse since stating school.
I used to be able to manage it with emollients and occasional hydrocortisone but in the last 12 months its got so bad that we use hydrocortisone twice daily and eumovate for flare ups. He also had several courses of antibiotics as it keeps getting infected. It's awful to see him like it as his skin looks so red and sore.
He's had skin prick tests and had positive reactions to cats, dustmites and pollen and he's on antihistimes - cetririzine.
So far we've tried changing his uniform so it's all cotton, he also puts cream on whilst at school, although probably not enough.
Now the main problem is the school seems to have a pet cat . Apparently it doesn't go in the classroom but ds says it does and they let it out of the window! I've eliminated all other possible causes of ds's flare ups that I can think of.
So I seem to have a few options:
Put up with it- it's an infants school so ds is only there for the rest of this year and next year.
Move schools, but they are all over subscribed around here so I'm not sure we'd get a place anywhere else.
Try some ezcema clothing, maybe dermasilk leggings and tops? I don't know if this might make him a target for name-calling and nastiness.
We've got a referral to dermatology but the appointment is not until January and I'm not sure if there's anything else they'll be able to do.
Anyway thanks if you've managed to get to the end of this. I'd appreciate any ideas, advice or positive stories of ezcema just suddenly improving! :)
