Allergies and intolerances

Could my week old dd be allergic to cows milk?

Had to take dd2 to hospital last night as she had passed blood, she has been pooing loads for the past few days, sometimes pooing 3 or 4 times whilst feeding, she has been bottle fed from birth on sma gold, anyway the doctor at the hospital said she may be allergic to cows milk and if the pooing gets worse or no better i should talk to the health visitor or my gp about putting her on soya milk.
Does this sound like a milk allergy or has she just got a very active bottom?
Any advice please?

Hello
Could be possibly but you would have to take DD off the formula and try another special non-dairy one - you can get these on prescription and need to take advice from your GP. Soya is not necessarily the best formula for such a young baby - there are special ones you can get. Many babies who are allergic to diary also can become allergic to soya.

What is her weight gain like ?

I gave DS some 'normal' formula when 2 weeks old for 2 days and this caused similiar symptoms to your DD's, but he also had bad vomiting after having a feed and excema starting. DS is allergic to dairy, he is 3 now.

she gained half an oz in the first week so she does'nt seem to be loosing any, she seems alot better today, im starting to think it could of been a bug, going to keep an eye on her for a week and then go from there. The midwife did'nt seem keen on changing milk yet. Thanks for all your advice.

Probably ab it late for this answer but I believe I heard somewhere that is possible to rescue breastmilk production during the early days.

I will push for something different, soya formula is not really that good and if your child is very sensitive to cows milk she is very likely to be sensitive to goats milk formula. Could you ask your doctor about Neocate?
