I've been browsing the Kindle sale this afternoon and nothing is jumping out at me. What have you bought so far? I'm thinking of trying one of the Elly Griffiths ones as someone was talking about them on here.

DuchessofMalfi Thu 27-Dec-12 16:27:13

Today's selection is a bit rubbish.

DH bought one by Rachel Hore, and I bought Snowdrops by A D Miller (sounds intriguing, but may be awful, but at least it didn't cost much grin)

WipsGlitter Thu 27-Dec-12 16:28:49

India Knight and Marion Keyes both reduced by 50%.

juneybean Thu 27-Dec-12 16:29:01

I bought the snow child by eowyn something for our goodreads book of the month

MirandaWest Thu 27-Dec-12 16:29:36

I bought the life of pi - not sure if it was in the sale but was only 20p

Notquite Thu 27-Dec-12 16:30:35

Life of Pi is 20p. Dd1 recommends.

snozzlemaid Thu 27-Dec-12 17:13:20

I've bought Safe House, The Expats and The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window and Disappeared. 20p each.
Just started Safe House and it's a promising beginning.

StephaniePowers Thu 27-Dec-12 17:15:54

Neal Stephenson 'Reamde' 99p
How do you find the 20p ones?

snozzlemaid Thu 27-Dec-12 17:19:41

They're in the best sellers chart.

Behind the Beautiful Forevers - Life and Death in a Mumbai Slum and quite a few others - but that one was on the wishlist for the books I most want to buy and would probably buy at over £5 (my wishlist for books I'm considering buying at some point if they're cheap enough or want to remind myself of occasionally is huge).

I'm also making a wishlist for this sale - I add anything that looks worth considering buying and then I can go back and find the ones I'm tempted by easily, as the list is over 400 and they're adding books each day until 7 January.

And now, it's gone midnight and I can look at the Daily Deal and today's sale additions!

20p books are separate offers from the Kindle sale - they might end tomorrow and they might be around for weeks. I have most except for the really ridiculous ones already, some I even paid a bit more than 20p for. There are some sale offers which I paid much more for too, grrr.

cocolepew Fri 28-Dec-12 00:06:04

DD bought the Life if Pi and a QI one for 20p.

GoldMyrrhAndNonsense Fri 28-Dec-12 04:18:50

I ended up getting the Hundred Year Old Man one and the 99p Elly Griffiths. Just need to finish The Blackhouse now.

DuchessofMalfi Fri 28-Dec-12 08:10:39

I may be tempted by The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy trilogy of five novels grin but again I'm struggling to find anything much in today's offering.

Any good recommendations?

BabeRuthless Fri 28-Dec-12 09:55:58

I got J.M Barrie Ladies Swimming Society which I've just started. English Monster and Glass Geishas which I've had on my wish list for a while. The Dinner is on today's daily deal so I've got that too. There's a lot of filler in this sale I think.

BestIsWest Fri 28-Dec-12 18:27:05

I have bought The Mitfords, Letters between 6 sisters. £1.99

Myliferocks Fri 28-Dec-12 18:30:47

The Elly Griffiths book in the sale is number 4 in a 5 book series.
I bought Cold Grave by Craig Robertson in the sale and then discovered it is number 2 in a series so had to buy number 1 which isn't in the sale.

Myliferocks Fri 28-Dec-12 18:32:16

I already have it but The House By The Sea by Santa Montefiore is a good read and is only £1.99 in the sale.

BillyBollyBrandy Fri 28-Dec-12 21:16:49

Ivy Malone - shockingly shit

bran Fri 28-Dec-12 21:25:01

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Southeastdweller Fri 28-Dec-12 23:13:47

The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed out of tthe Window and Disappeared, for just 20p.

Also, And When Did You Last See Your Father, for 99p. I've been meaning to get that for ages.

emylou1982 Sat 29-Dec-12 14:31:20

I bought The White Lie for £1.29 and The Language of Flowers for 99p. Both been on my wish list for a while but my TBR pile is verging on the rediculous!

Clawdy Sun 30-Dec-12 13:57:14

Started The Lewis Man by Peter May - 20p! Like it very much so far.

mumslife Mon 31-Dec-12 09:22:04

I have just finished a gathering storm by Rachel hoare and it was brilliant not sure if that is the one in the kindle sale but it was brilliant read it on paperback

elkiedee Mon 31-Dec-12 23:02:52

I enjoyed these books previously, some on Kindle and some in other formats, which are in the sale

Literary

Chimamanda Ngosi Adichie, Purple Hibiscus - a girl growing up in Nigeria, with a domineering father
Eleanor Catton, The Rehearsal - drama school in New Zealand
Yvonne Edwards, A Cupboard Full of Coats - controversial Booker longlist, debut novel by a London writer

Other Fiction

Vanesssa Diffenbaugh, The Language of Flowers - California - a young woman who has had difficult experiences of being in care has a baby herself, and comes to terms with her relationship with her long term foster mother. A great if rather sentimental read.

Crime fiction

Carola Dunn, Death at Wentwater Court - first of 20 books about a fairly posh amateur sleuth in the 1920s - fluffy but quite fun (and I'm not really normally a reader of such a cosy type book)

Alison G Taylor, Simeon's Bride - reissue of a rather dark police detective crime novel, first in series of 5 - Taylor was a social worker working in the children in care area and was a whistleblower. I read this quite a long time ago and would recommend it if the subject matter doesn't make you run away screaming.

elkiedee Mon 31-Dec-12 23:08:35

Also Amy Tan, The Kitchen God's Wife

There are lots that I've bought either in this sale or previously on Kindle that I'm really looking forward to and have heard are good, including some non fiction books, history, travel and memoir especially.

SooticaTheWitchesCat Wed 02-Jan-13 10:58:38

I got The Life of Pi for 20p too smile

I have finished it already, what a fab book!

overflowingmum Wed 02-Jan-13 19:25:49

I have bought loads in the sale for my new Kindle!
So far:
The Snow Child
A cupboard full of coats
Magician
The language of flowers
Purple Hibiscus
The grass is singing
My sister lives on the mantlepiece
The 100 year old man.....

plus a few others I've bought not in the twelve days deals!!
Should keep me going for a bit!!grin

elkiedee Thu 03-Jan-13 01:04:27

I loved Purple Hibiscus and A Cupboard Full of Coats and The Language of Flowers were good reads too (though I wouldn't consider them to be quite the same literary quality). I bought The Snow Child and there are a couple of others which I own but I may not get them.

elkiedee Thu 03-Jan-13 01:08:00

I mean that there are a couple that I want to read but I own in paperback, and in those cases I get the Kindle edition on the basis that I will pass on the print copy to a relative, friend or charity shop. With children's books, even YA ones or very girly ones that my sons might never read, I'm not so comfortable somehow with replacing real books with ebooks.

Startail Thu 03-Jan-13 01:17:00

Complete Hitch hikers guide, could recite huge chunks as a teen.

fuzzpig Thu 03-Jan-13 01:56:59

Can I just ask, are the things that are on the sale now actually staying on sale until 7th jan? So I could just look then and see everything all in one go? (Not daily deals obviously)

I work in a library so see loads of books I'd like to read all the time, not that I ever make time to read them hmm

BabeRuthless Thu 03-Jan-13 09:48:55

That's right fuzzpig they're adding new titles every day but they all stay in till midnight on the 7th.

fuzzpig Thu 03-Jan-13 09:55:36

Excellent, thank you <sets alarm on phone> smile
