I don't know if this has been done before but with all the free content on kindle and some
Of it being dire I thought a thread could help find great books at great prices.

I also thought that people could say 'this book is only 20p - has anyone read it is it good?

I started it because

James Herbert - Ash
Is only 20p and I have bought it today
Please post your bargains!

oh great idea marking my place!

scrablet Thu 13-Sep-12 15:49:12

me too.

upthealdi Thu 13-Sep-12 19:26:08

And me! We're not being terribly helpful though, are we?grin

Kayano Thu 13-Sep-12 19:38:41

Shame on you all grin

Just looking through - a few James Herbert books are only 95p ATM. I've never even read any by him yet but I now own three lol

WiseKneeHair Thu 13-Sep-12 19:42:05

Perfect people was 20p. I'm not sure it still is but it was excellent.
Also David Baldacci zero hour was 20 p a couple of weeks ago. It was excellent. A bit like a young Jack Reacher. grin
Sorry for any typos, on my phone on the bus!

Kayano Thu 13-Sep-12 19:54:53

Oh that's good! I keep looking at zero hour and wondering!

DuchessofMalfi Thu 13-Sep-12 19:55:15

If you like Kate Morton, then The Forgotten Garden is a kindle bargain atm.

TheLightPassenger Sat 15-Sep-12 18:33:17

other 20p books - The Expats by Chris Pavone, Sarah Thornhill by Kate Grenville.

balia Sat 15-Sep-12 18:53:12

One of the June Thompson's is only 99p - she does a kind of recreation of 'lost' Sherlock Holmes novels, so good if you like that kind of thing.

Brilliant idea for a thread, OP, thanks. have just bought The Forgotten Garden.

Celticlassie Sat 15-Sep-12 23:21:41

The House at Riverton is only 99p, if anyone's not read it. I loved it. The Weight of Silence by Heather Gudenkauf is also 99p and was fairly good, from what I remember.

fivegomadindorset Sat 15-Sep-12 23:24:16

I LOVED the house at Riverton!

Pandalaw Tue 18-Sep-12 13:44:43

The Colony-FG Cottam £1.53

frenchfancy Tue 18-Sep-12 18:47:31

Thanks, just downloaded the forgotten garden.

For anyone that doesn't know, there is a daily e-mail send out by ereaderiq which has loads of free kindle books on. I've got loads of good free ones from there.

Just finished the Henchmens book club by Danny King. Light hearted action book, I enjoyed it. I've also read Past imperfect and Emperors Edge both good reads, both free when I downloaded.

silver28 Tue 18-Sep-12 18:52:46

I read a book called Max by DM Mitchell which was free (was the only reason I chose it) and I thought it was really good.

Not exactly cheap, but you can get the first 3 Poirots (Styles, Murder on the Links and Poirot Investigstes) in a bundle for £9.99 (normally £4.99 each).

Also a bundle of the first three Marples for £9.99.

elkiedee Wed 19-Sep-12 14:05:53

Ooh yes, I enjoyed The Untied Kingdom, which I reviewed when it came out, see here:

If you enjoy chick lit and historical romance, Choc Lit , publisher of the Untied Kingdom, sell nearly all their books for Kindle for £1.99 or less each - this one is currently free, review by someone else but I enjoyed it too.

TheCalmingManatee Wed 19-Sep-12 14:11:37

marks place - am just reading ASH by James Herbert, its OK, not brilliant as yet.

TheCalmingManatee Wed 19-Sep-12 14:12:51

Classics are often Free, i downloaded "five children and It" by E nesbit, i read it to DD, she I loves it

tiggy114 Wed 19-Sep-12 14:31:02

Just got Ash. Havn't read James Herbert for a long while but used to love him as much as Steven King at one time. More ghosty than SK. So will look forward to this read. Great idea for a thread btw.

BeatTheClock Wed 19-Sep-12 14:35:33

What a great thread! Thanks Kayanosmile It is hard to know what's good and not in the free/cheapy downloads. I'll have a good look through these suggestions.

I bought The Count Of Monte Cristo for 77p. I've been promising myself forever to read it and get the feeling it's one of those books I ought to have read (but never doblush) No excuse now.

frenchfancy Wed 19-Sep-12 16:20:37

Ascension Day by Johm Matthews is free today. I read his other book Past Imperfect which I also got free and it was very good. Hopefully this one is too.

Trills Wed 19-Sep-12 16:24:22

Are you just listing "books that are cheap" or are you saying "books that are cheap and they are good because I have read them or I know that author"?

Disclaimer - Have not read Tim Weaver books but he gets really good reviews all over the place and 2 of his books are currently 1.99 on the Kindle only (Chasing the Dead and the Dead Tracks)

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt Wed 19-Sep-12 17:28:15

I have read Monday to Friday Man (20p), can recommend it as a good easy chick lit book.

BabeRuthless Wed 19-Sep-12 18:24:24

Have we all seen that the first Lewis book by Peter May is 20p?

frenchfancy Wed 19-Sep-12 18:55:44

I was going to only list ones I had read and enjoyed, then I saw the free one from the same author. The trouble is alot of the free/cheap books are only on offer for a limited time, sometimes only a day.

elkiedee Wed 19-Sep-12 19:53:24

I'd just come to post about The Lewis Man, though it's #2 in the series and #1 is £2.99 (The Blackhouse). Wish they'd offer his Beijing series so cheaply, though either all of them or one which isn't the 2nd in the series as I paid £5.73 for that. I have 1, 3 and 5 in paperback I think, but I've no idea where two of them are.

BabeRuthless Wed 19-Sep-12 20:04:28

Didn't realise it was number two. Though just over £3 for the pair is a really good deal.

elkiedee Wed 19-Sep-12 21:20:59

Now that's a good way of looking at it BabeRuthless. I've got them already, though I do recommend them. Can I come back to you when I need help to justify my Kindle purchases to myself?

DuchessofMalfi Wed 19-Sep-12 22:23:19

I'm fairly sure I got The Blackhouae for 20p a while back. Just bought Lewis Man. 40p for both - bargain smile.

BabeRuthless Thu 20-Sep-12 10:42:41

Oh I manage to justify just about any kindle purchase wink

Scootergrrrl Fri 21-Sep-12 06:16:35

The Heat Of The Sun is today's daily deal for 99p and has amazing reviews. Have bought it.

housewife84 Fri 21-Sep-12 09:28:14

tiggy114 Fri 21-Sep-12 16:26:51

How do i get the daily deal emails? I thought i'd subscribed but aren't getting any emails. And yes, i loved 50 shades! Just read as a fun read though, don't expect intellectual. Think da vinci code wink

DuchessofMalfi Fri 21-Sep-12 18:03:48

Click this link tiggy114 and then on the right hand side it says Kindle Daily Deal - from there you can subscribe to the daily deal email.

Galaxymum Mon 24-Sep-12 10:20:07

I'm reading Mariana by Susanna Kearsley which was 99p. Brilliant find and got me out of a readingdrudge. Definitely recommend this book. Time travelling and great characters.

Works of Ford Madox Ford - with Parade's End [all]. 11 books for £1.31

I downloaded this subtraction book for my Y3 DD as it was free:

She's loving it <junior geek>.

Ooh, marking my place

TC Southwell does some good series (LOVED her Queen's Blade series) and although it doesn't appear that any of the Queen's blade stuff is free currently, her stuff always seems to have something with a £0 tag and is well worth looking out for smile

The first in the series is only 77p currently and the rest run to about £2.50 a book (but do come cheaper sometimes)

the queens blade

elkiedee Wed 26-Sep-12 14:18:15

Patrick McCabe, The Butcher Boy, 89p
M J McGrath, White Heat 89p - first in series, crime novel set in the Arctic - probably as promotion for #2 which is just coming out but it sounds good - I also have 2 of her non fiction books and noticed when I looked this one up that she has written a non fiction book about the Inuit people living in the Arctic region.

BabeRuthless Thu 27-Sep-12 09:15:11

Song of Achilles and Lace both down to 99p today. You can offset the guilty pleasure of Lace by getting a highbrow tale of Greek mythology. Everyone's a winner.

mummytime Thu 27-Sep-12 09:31:07

Song of Achilles is very good, pity they had to reduce it now, we read it over the summer for book group.

DuchessofMalfi Thu 27-Sep-12 10:11:27

It's annoying when they reduce the price after you've bought something. I paid the original price for Song of Achilles. My new policy is to put everything I want into my wish list and then watch and wait for it to be reduced or appear in the kindle daily deal.

bran Thu 27-Sep-12 10:24:05

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Duchess - that is the way to go. and I second bran's suggestion of ereaderiq. I have got loads off my wish list very cheap that way. Emailing you on price drops is very reliable. Often the price drop is only short lived, so unless you check your wish list every day you may well miss it dropping....

I also got the two Peter May books for 40p!! Hurrah!

If they reduce the price just after you bought it, you can return it via the Amazon "Manage my kindle" page. I think it allows you up to seven days. I actually did this when something I bought dropped the next day. Returned it, then re-bought at the lower price. I have no idea whether it can tell if you have read the book and if you are more than X pages through it, it won't let you do it....

DuchessofMalfi Thu 27-Sep-12 17:21:55

I get the free ebook list from ereaderiq every day (and Daily Cheap Reads). I've amended to get notification of the price changes too. Thanks for the tip, Anonymous smile

frenchfancy Fri 28-Sep-12 21:25:22

Just wanted to say thanks to this thread I've just finished the Forgotten Garden and it was excellent, much better than the House at Riverton. Still only 69p as well.

I've also read this week, Purple by Graham J Sharpe, I would class it as Young Adult, but it was good, very original.

SuperScribbler Fri 28-Sep-12 23:32:56

Not VERY cheap, but for £2.99 each I just bought The Nightmare by Lars Kepler (I enjoyed The Hypnotist, another of his) and The Best of Everything by Rona Jaffe, which I think was recommended on here sometime.

DizzyHoneyBee Sun 04-Nov-12 15:56:17

99p at the moment.
Not read it but it looks good.

elkiedee Mon 05-Nov-12 13:07:52

Celticlassie and DizzyHoneyBee have mentioned offers from the current sale until Wednesday 7 November. There are two other books by Alice Thomas Ellis, Dizzy, too, at 99p.

Harper Collins seem to be putting a lot of stuff on at reasonable if not rock bottom prices (£2-£3) today, and I noticed two freebies

Grace Monroe, Dark Angels - first in crime series
Olivia Goldsmith, Uptown Girl - American chicklit

DuchessofMalfi Mon 05-Nov-12 18:16:56

Loads of cheap and free books from Harper Collins and Fourth Estate listed here on Daily Cheap Reads. I've just bought quite a lot several smile

DuchessofMalfi Mon 07-Jan-13 18:24:34
