Quote of the week

CaptainNancy's (admirably succinct) family rules: "Don't be a dingbat/duffer. Keep calm and carry on. Dream big. Shut up and get on with it."

Recipe of the week

Carmenere's cinder toffee: sweet, sticky, made-in-five-minutes toffee squares that'll spark off a few 'yums' among the 'oohs' and 'aahs' of your little fireworks-watchers.

Fantastic book - I do remember holding my breath with fear when the truth about the captives was about to be revealed. I almost didn't want to know.

Actually, I may suggest it as our next book club read....!!

I love this book and recommend it to everyone - really interesting
Oh my gosh, this book stayed with me for months!

So poignant when one of the captured men spells out "Mercy" in the straw, and she is completely unfamiliar with the word because she has never heard it on human television.. says something quite damning about our media.

If anything could turn you veggie, this book will!

I really liked it too! Although I felt so sorry for Isserley.

I read it after 'The Crimson Petal and the White', which was so totally different. But that story stayed with me too.

god yes, i read it ages ago but still think about it.
Thought provoking and creepy but beautiful and terrible. A strange mix of things.

Was hooked but sickened in parts. Almost want to be a vegetarian now. So I guess it did what the author wanted.

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
