Off on holiday tomorrow and need kindle download ideas!

I want something easy to read. Recently enjoyed...
Room
The island
Gone girl
All Maggie o'farrels books
Poisonwood Bible
The Help
Secret life of bees
Some of Sophie Hannah's books

I also read an emily Barr and a Diane chamberlain. The latter was better than the former- even I thought emily Barr ( the sleeper) was badly written- but I rarely notice bad writing, lol! However, not sure I can face a second Diane chamberlain !

Any ideas?
Please!

Have you read anything by Elizabeth Haynes? Her first one 'into the darkest corner' is brilliant.

NoonarAgain Wed 12-Feb-14 20:45:59

Is it very dark and scary?

MadameJosephine Wed 12-Feb-14 20:50:29

I've just finished The Storyteller by Jodi picoult, I don't always like her books but I really enjoyed this one.

How abou Chris Cleave? The Other Hand is fantastic

Not too much. You feel anxious for the main character but I wasn't scared. It deals with domestic violence so might not be a suitable read for all. But I devoured it in a couple of days, I really couldn't stop reading it.

Based on the books you've enjoyed, I'd recommend :

The Light Between Oceans - M L Steadman

Longbourn - Jo Baker

The Last Runaway - Tracy Chevalier

Have a good holiday smile

Apple tree yard (described as a thriller but isn't - it's gripping like Gone Girl)

PixelAteMyFace Wed 12-Feb-14 22:12:30

Anything by Kate Atkinson

ListenToTheLady Wed 12-Feb-14 22:15:02

Jenny Eclair's novels - she has written 3 and they are all really good – well-written, funny but also dark and with interesting plots and great characters. Covers look like chick lit but they are much more than that.

YY to Kate Atkinson
You might also like Hilary Mantel and Donna Tartts books.

AuntFidgetWonkhamStrong Wed 12-Feb-14 22:15:46

Ditto Kate Atkinson & Sophie Hannah. Recently read The Rosie Project by Graham (or possibly Graeme) Simsion - hilarious! Would definitely recommend.

Oops, sorry - it was you who suggested SH, OP!

Agree Apple Tree Yard very good read. Not a thriller as such but is a page turner.

How about The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith (J K Rowling) - another good one.

I'm readind Love, Nina by Nina Stibbe atm. Very funny tales if life as a nanny/student in early 80s. All sorts of well known people crop up in it. Would make a good holiday read.

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield - creepy and gothic tale, well-written page-turner.

That should say - reading, and of ....

mimbleandlittlemy Thu 13-Feb-14 10:56:30

Another ditto for Kate Atkinson then how about:

My Dear, I Wanted to Tell You by Louisa Young
Flight Behaviour/Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver (especially as you've got Poisonwood in there)
The Cleaner of Chartres by Salley Vickers

sami1985 Mon 10-Mar-14 17:06:01

Sophie Kinsella 'remember me' is a great one!

Matildaandthematches Mon 10-Mar-14 20:29:38

Try Susan Elliot Wright - The Things We Never Said. She's meant to be the new Maggie O'Farrell. I also liked Penny Hancock's Tideline so second that.

sami1985 Tue 11-Mar-14 21:36:43

Ooh yes I really enjoyed The Things We Never Said as well!

Cheshireblue Wed 19-Mar-14 18:35:53
