My 75 year old father was in hospital recently and I took him books by Bill Bryson - short chapters, no real plot to follow, something easy to dip in and out of.

Are there any biographies he might enjoy? Maybe someone of the same generation as him?

Thanks for the suggestions so far....

My dad was in hospital recently for an operation. I gave him a copy of Richard Madeley's novel Someday I'll Find You. I know it sounds as if it might be a bit cheesy, but my dad really enjoyed it. He read it in one day. He's 83, by the way.

His comment was that it was absorbing, and gripping.

My dad is 70 and he likes reading a lot of John Grisham books. Alternatively, if you think something funny might be more his thing, what about a classic such as Billy Liar by Keith Waterhouse?

I'm thinking audio books would help recovery in hospital but have no idea what a 70 yr old man whose never had any interest in reading would like.... Any recommendations?
