DO NOT READ ON IF YOU HAVEN'T READ IT

REALLY

I MEAN IT

HOPEFULLY THAT'S ENOUGH

Ok, so I've just started reading gone girl BUT I'm wondering if it's already ruined for me. Someome on another thread, commenting on a telly programme, said 'I could do with a happy ending after reading gone girl'. I'm on the third chapter, Amy has gone missing. Is there any point me reading now I know it's going to be a sad ending? I guess at this point you could think she has made herself go missing, she might turn up, she might not... Etc.

So should I keep going?

Yes. I can't say much else, but definitely keep reading.

bringonyourwreckingball Sun 30-Jun-13 15:56:51

Definitely keep reading. Loads of twists.

EliotNess Sun 30-Jun-13 15:57:47

Keep going

I read about 5 pages and gave up - it was horribly badly written. Dp and dd1 both finished it - and then said they'd wished they hadn't bothered. Then it went to the charity shop - they already had five copies!

The ending is not ruined.

wannabeawallaby Sun 30-Jun-13 16:01:31

Thanks all. Maybe not the best written but I just want a good story smile

EliotNess Sun 30-Jun-13 16:27:39

I'm reading one step too far by Tina seskis. It's crap writing. Really bad. But engaging

Clawdy Sun 30-Jun-13 16:39:22

Keep reading because some people may think the ending is not unhappy.

Picturesinthefirelight Sun 30-Jun-13 16:41:27

Defiantly keep reading. It's not what you think.

noddyholder Sun 30-Jun-13 16:42:34

I liked this book Keep going Its not a masterpiece but hugely enjoyable

FishCalledWonder Sun 30-Jun-13 16:45:55

Definitely keep going. Not a book that'll change the world, but a really enjoyable bit of escapism. I read it in one sitting.

Bin it and watch some paint dry instead. It will be more interesting.

Facebaffle Sun 30-Jun-13 16:55:38

I really got into but felt the ending was rushed and a let down.

I won't reveal whether it's a sad or happy ending.

I too felt the ending was a let down. I was completely baffled. I persisted until almost the end, then got irritated and gave up. Don't understand what the hype was all about.

GemmaTeller Sun 30-Jun-13 17:03:02

Yes, keep reading.

I kept thinking, ooh, I wonder if she does..?, I wonder if he is...? I wonder what..?

I suppose the ending is regarded as clever but I thought wtf !

DuchessofMalfi Sun 30-Jun-13 17:58:19

The first part was quite difficult to get into, and I nearly gave up. However, I carried on and part 2 was so much better. I loved it because it was so twisted, and bitter. Really nasty. And a good ending - can't say too much, but I thought it just right.

EliotNess Sun 30-Jun-13 18:02:41

oh god ODNT READ that seskis book

the end is so unbearably SHIT

Ragwort Sun 30-Jun-13 18:05:06

Yes, keep reading, I enjoyed it, not a literary masterpiece but a good read. smile

JellyBelly10 Sun 30-Jun-13 18:08:20

This book was an interesting read with some surprising twists but the end was rubbish! Felt like the author suddenly did a word-count, realised they'd reached their maximum so just stopped writing the book and went off down the pub!

GiraffesAndButterflies Sun 30-Jun-13 18:25:11

Keep reading, it's a great story!

Andromaca Sun 30-Jun-13 18:31:53

Keep reading, i did. But it could be a let down (it was for me): I think it is badly written and the story is poor. But i cannot start a book and not finish it...

bunnybing Sun 30-Jun-13 20:15:10

Definitely worth finishing!

Don't really get why people say it's badly written. I agree with Ragwort - not a literary masterpiece but a good read.

Trills Sun 30-Jun-13 20:31:00

If you are enjoying it, keep reading it.

If you are not enjoying it, don't.

There are so many ways that a story could have a "not happy" ending, I think you are being rather silly to think that the book could be ruined. Surely the point of the story is not simply "is she dead?" but "what happened?", and "what happens next?".

IDoAllMyOwnStunts Sun 30-Jun-13 20:35:23

I just wished every single character would kill themselves or each other by the end of it, because I couldn't have given a monkeys about any of them. And I paid £3 on my kindle <<waste of money emotion>>
