Colleen McCullough's series set in ancient Rome is great. first one is called Fortune's Favourites and I think there are 7 books in all.

Did you ever read the series by Diana Gabaldon? Features Claire who unwittingly steps back in time from 1945 and ends up with Jamie in 18th century Scotland. Book 1 was Cross Stitch known as 'Outlander' in USA. At least 4 books if memory serves.

Fond memory as friend introduced me to these when I had pfb lovely to cosy up in wee small hours with baby bf and reading.

Another Cap'n Ross and Demelza fan here.

Just finished working my way through these. Can anyone recommend similar light historical fiction or sagas (from any time period). Thanks!
