I've been browsing the Kindle sale this afternoon and nothing is jumping out at me. What have you bought so far? I'm thinking of trying one of the Elly Griffiths ones as someone was talking about them on here.
Today's selection is a bit rubbish.
DH bought one by Rachel Hore, and I bought Snowdrops by A D Miller (sounds intriguing, but may be awful, but at least it didn't cost much
)
India Knight and Marion Keyes both reduced by 50%.
I bought the snow child by eowyn something for our goodreads book of the month
I bought the life of pi - not sure if it was in the sale but was only 20p
Life of Pi is 20p. Dd1 recommends.
I've bought Safe House, The Expats and The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window and Disappeared. 20p each.
Just started Safe House and it's a promising beginning.
Neal Stephenson 'Reamde' 99p
How do you find the 20p ones?
They're in the best sellers chart.
Behind the Beautiful Forevers - Life and Death in a Mumbai Slum and quite a few others - but that one was on the wishlist for the books I most want to buy and would probably buy at over £5 (my wishlist for books I'm considering buying at some point if they're cheap enough or want to remind myself of occasionally is huge).
I'm also making a wishlist for this sale - I add anything that looks worth considering buying and then I can go back and find the ones I'm tempted by easily, as the list is over 400 and they're adding books each day until 7 January.
And now, it's gone midnight and I can look at the Daily Deal and today's sale additions!
20p books are separate offers from the Kindle sale - they might end tomorrow and they might be around for weeks. I have most except for the really ridiculous ones already, some I even paid a bit more than 20p for. There are some sale offers which I paid much more for too, grrr.
DD bought the Life if Pi and a QI one for 20p.
I ended up getting the Hundred Year Old Man one and the 99p Elly Griffiths. Just need to finish The Blackhouse now.
I may be tempted by The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy trilogy of five novels
but again I'm struggling to find anything much in today's offering.
Any good recommendations?
I got J.M Barrie Ladies Swimming Society which I've just started. English Monster and Glass Geishas which I've had on my wish list for a while. The Dinner is on today's daily deal so I've got that too. There's a lot of filler in this sale I think.
I have bought The Mitfords, Letters between 6 sisters. £1.99
The Elly Griffiths book in the sale is number 4 in a 5 book series.
I bought Cold Grave by Craig Robertson in the sale and then discovered it is number 2 in a series so had to buy number 1 which isn't in the sale.
I already have it but The House By The Sea by Santa Montefiore is a good read and is only £1.99 in the sale.
Ivy Malone - shockingly shit
Message withdrawn at poster's request.
The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed out of tthe Window and Disappeared, for just 20p.
Also, And When Did You Last See Your Father, for 99p. I've been meaning to get that for ages.
I bought The White Lie for £1.29 and The Language of Flowers for 99p. Both been on my wish list for a while but my TBR pile is verging on the rediculous!
Started The Lewis Man by Peter May - 20p! Like it very much so far.
I have just finished a gathering storm by Rachel hoare and it was brilliant not sure if that is the one in the kindle sale but it was brilliant read it on paperback
I enjoyed these books previously, some on Kindle and some in other formats, which are in the sale
Literary
Chimamanda Ngosi Adichie, Purple Hibiscus - a girl growing up in Nigeria, with a domineering father
Eleanor Catton, The Rehearsal - drama school in New Zealand
Yvonne Edwards, A Cupboard Full of Coats - controversial Booker longlist, debut novel by a London writer
Other Fiction
Vanesssa Diffenbaugh, The Language of Flowers - California - a young woman who has had difficult experiences of being in care has a baby herself, and comes to terms with her relationship with her long term foster mother. A great if rather sentimental read.
Crime fiction
Carola Dunn, Death at Wentwater Court - first of 20 books about a fairly posh amateur sleuth in the 1920s - fluffy but quite fun (and I'm not really normally a reader of such a cosy type book)
Alison G Taylor, Simeon's Bride - reissue of a rather dark police detective crime novel, first in series of 5 - Taylor was a social worker working in the children in care area and was a whistleblower. I read this quite a long time ago and would recommend it if the subject matter doesn't make you run away screaming.
Also Amy Tan, The Kitchen God's Wife
There are lots that I've bought either in this sale or previously on Kindle that I'm really looking forward to and have heard are good, including some non fiction books, history, travel and memoir especially.
