I posted a thread some weeks ago asking when and how you find the time to read. Thanks for your replies. I'm been reading more since then but am wondering just how many books you've read in the last year?
I've read 12.
110 this year but do read the kindle every night in bed
Ds 2 was born in January this year. So nowhere near as many as i usually read, 3 or 4 I think. Before ds2 it was roughly 2 a week. But read to ds1 most nights.
Ds2 just tries to grab them out of my hands and chew them. But ds1 was a bookworm like me from day dot.
15 books - 12 of them have been on my Kindle which I had as a present in August.
Candyloo - My favourite books are a real mix, I like modern detective fiction, particularly Simon Brett, Sue Grafton, Stieg Larsson, Ann Cleeves, classics such as Austen, HE Bates, F Scott Fitzgerald and Stella Gibbons and some more 'light' reads by Miranda Dickenson, Sopie Kinsella and Catherine Alliot etc. I tend to read a classic interspersed with a crime drama and then 2 or 3 lighter reads.
About 80.
I have lots to read over Christmas!,,
101 but I don't think I'll beat that next year, I read a few series books which were usually between 200-300 pages
27 on my Kindle plus maybe 5 others?
36 so far.
not enough - but next year will read more
Nil, none, zip, zero. For 40 years an avid reader. Had dc 2 years ago. Read one book the first year, not a single one the second. I miss it!
Minimum 52 I buy at least one book a week.
81, currently reading 82nd. I log all my books through GoodReads. My original target was 75 for the year, so may aim for 90 next year.
Those of you who have read over a hundred books this year - do you do anything else at all? Do you have small children? Just wondering how you find the time.
I don't have any children, and I work a job where I sit on my ass for 5 hours at a time
I managed to read more books this year simply by cutting back on the amount of tv I watched in the evenings once the children were in bed. Having a kindle, and kindle app on my phone have also helped increase the available time to read, so I can get 10 mins at the school gate, 30 mins at swimming lessons etc. It all adds up during the year to quite a lot of reading time
Cote - I have two children. The oldest is at school, the youngest is at home with me fulltime. I tend to get him set up with something and then read while he plays, he gets cross if I get too involved but he likes to have me there.
DH travels a lot so once the kids are in bed I'm on my own most evenings. I read for two or three hours a night. Plus DH took the kids away on holiday for a week and left me behind so I could have some peace.
Half of what I read is history, the rest is YA, post-apoc, dystopian, zombies, classic fiction, virago and persephone. I don't read modern fiction or chicklit in general.
Hardly any- less than 5 which is ridiculous. Thought I'd be reading lots as expecting and probably started another 5 or so but could not get into them so gave up a few chapters in. I'm sleeallt struggling to find any I can get into
CoteDAzur, I only have 1 child who is 5. There isn't a lot on TV in the evenings which interests me, so I tend to just read from when DD goes to bed until I go to bed and then also read whenever I get a few minutes to spare - it really does all add up. I'm quite a fast reader which helps.
The first couple of years after my daughter was born, I only read a handful of books. I just didn't have the time and I didn't feel like reading.
10 - possibly 11 if I finish Anna Karenina by new year (300 pages to go). Am quite proud of this number as I had DS 1 in March and I've read 2 long classics - Middlemarch & Anna Karenina (well nearly!).
I read but rarely watch tv.
I often go to bed about 9 and read for a couple of jours.
And I have teenagers!!
At least 100 and probably another 50 on top. I work ft, long hours, and have 1 DS I just read when I can, I fall asleep reading I go to bed early ( get home at 8, go to bed before 10).
About 50ish if you don't count text books-I always have to have one on the go.
I would read more, if it wasn't for mn.
According to good reads I got through 30. Am surprised its not more as I spent a lot of time in airports and on planes last year. btw what is the name of the mums net book group on good reads.
halo - this is our book group on Goodreads - The Book Vipers. We recently changed our name, after a quick poll amongst the group members. It's an open group and anyone/everyone is welcome to join. Hope to see you there
I don't keep count but would say a minimum of one a week so 50+. I have 2 dc aged 2 and 5 and get less reading done in holidays than term time as I read on the train to work (only 15 mins each way but often there a bit early so read while I'm waiting too). In summer I will find a patch of grass or a bench near work and read in my lunchtime too. In winter it might be an empty office if I can find one. We did not own a tv for years and only bought one this year for the kids to watch on a weekend morning and still don't watch it ourselves but sit down and read our books between supper and bed. If Dp sees me on mumsnet on an evening he will say 'don't you have a book to read?'
