Ok, I'm done reading, time to head for bed. And I've probably undone all the good of the last two or three (early) nights. Luckily, I don't care.

Ok, next baking question, I was going to do staple recipe of weigh eggs and mix with equal weight of butter, sugar and flour. Is that ok for cake to be cut and iced?

Well, HD holidays should have loads of great fics: I think everyone will have made a real effort as it is the last year it will run.

As for baking, a slightly denser cake is sometimes suggested for shaped / fancy / icing-heavy cakes, ie with a little more flour. I hardly ever have buttermilk, and just use a live/plain yoghurt and milk mix instead.

Hello new thread!

Just listened to the radio four programme while pairing socks. I enjoyed it, though amusing how embarrassed some of the participants sounded. Interesting how they defined slash as gay sex rather than gay relationships - sex is frequent but it doesn't have to be there to be slash, does it? And no mention of Kirk/Spock as the origin of the name, which is a shame. I also thought that the literary salon dude (James something?) was rather patronising, albeit in a pleasant manner. Why does he think fanfic has to be funny to be worthwhile? There are some seriously good, poignant and well-written stories out there. I'd be interested to see his opinion of SG's "The next twenty-four hours", which is beautifully written, classic slash, and has you broken and sobbing by the end.

Also, I am SO tempted to go and look for that Charles Xavier/Jesus Christ crossover on AO3. That sounds BRILLIANT.

Yes, Evil, he did sound embarrassed, didn't he? Like the most you could expect, quality-wise, would be for it to be spell-checked. 'Of course, it isn't real writing' etc.

But I liked the idea of it being a community thing, and that being why so many fic people were pissed off with EL James/Icy - because she was profitting from a work which drew on this community story-telling.
