Does anyone know of any novels set in the North East of England?
I'm trying to put some together for my parents, any recomendations would be gratefully received.

I've recommended this before to someone, despite not finishing it myself, but I think Wire in the Blood is set in Northumberland, if that's of any use?

Hi - we can recommend loads set in the North East of UK. Your best starting point is Mari Hannah, new author, 2 books out:
Settled Blood is her latest, set along Hadrian's Wall, Durham and Pennines. Crime. The first was the Murder Wall, Corbridge and Newcastle (I have just done a blogpost on her latest novel)
Flying with Kites is part set Newcastle by Alan Reynolds
The Other Family, Joanna Trollope part set NE
The Quality of Mercy Barry Unsworth
The First Time I saw you Hazel Osmond
Wedlock by Wendy Moore
Wife in the North, Judith O'Reilly....
Anyway loads more, depends on their reading taste. Have fun choosing.

Book by Paul Magrs - set in Whitby or the Darlington area.
David Almond's books are all set in the north Tyneside area but they tend to be YA books (although perfectly readable by adults of course).
Martyn Waites, Mary's Prayer and Little Triggers, some of his other early books
Jane Gardam, A Long Way from Verona
Pat Barker, Union Street and Liza's England
Andrea Badenoch, Loving Geordie
