i finished this yesterday, & was so disappointed.

all the hype made it sound fantastic, & really, it was crap.

is it just me? am i missing something?

please tell me why you loved it/ loathed it/ whatever smile

I haven't read this one, by I have read others by Joanne Harris and found the endings disappointing eg Five Quarters of the Orange, Blackberry Wine. Even Chocolat didn't have a brilliant ending, but I did like that one.

oh god i started that and it was so tortuous and boring and convoluted that i gave up. also found that with chocolate. pattern forming.

I loved Chocolat and Lollipop Shoes but was so disappointed with Blue-eyed Boy. I found the ending a real let down - it felt as if she just couldn't be bothered to finish it/sort out the convoluted web she'd woven, so just stopped writing.

I felt very cheated by it.

I agree, I persevered hoping it would get better. It didnt and I had wasted my time. Just finished The Hunger Games trilogy. Despite the target audience being two decades younger than me I found them excellent, couldn't put them down.

i wish i'd asked you all before bothering then grin

it's the first joanne harris I've read, but i won't bother with her again.

a lot of it just didn't add up to me- & i agree, the ending was as if she just couldn't be bothered any more.

I really liked it & by a strange coincidence have just finished it this last week. I find her books very hit and miss. Some I really enjoy like blueeyedboy and Gentlemen and Players and there's a couple like Holy Fools which I really struggle with. Think I like her psychological ones more.

Has anyone here read Sleep Pale Sister? Read it a few years back and absolutely loved it. Really dark and gothic which is the kind of thing I love.
