I am a voracious reader and I have run out of books / authors and really, really need you to recommend someone to me, (preferably with a huge back catalogue that I can really get my teeth into).

I've read everything by: Val McDermid, Ruth Rendell, Karin Slaughter, Tess Gerritsen, Patricia Cornwell, Agatha Christie, Mary Higgins-Clark, Jeffrey Archer, Lee Child, Jo Nesbo, Sidney Sheldon and Michael Connelly.

Is Reginald Hill worth pursuing? (I loved the Woodcutter) but haven't read anything else by him.

What about Mo Hayder? I read Pig Island and it made me feel very strange inside. Are her other books so disturbing?

Is there someone I should be reading and have somehow missed?

Please help, I need stimulation.....

Mo Hayders books are quite disturbing but I like them. I also love Gerritsen. Am in the same boat as you....I need a new crime writer!

PD James?

I enjoyed The Treatment by Mo Hayder....and the Birdman

S.J Bolton ia very good.

Reginald Hill is very good and has a huge back catalogue.

Andrew Taylor has a detective series set in the 1950s plus some very good stand alone thrillers.

Also, you might enjoy Ruth Rendell and PD James although they might seem old fashioned now - although I see you like Agatha Christie.

That should keep you going for a year ...

Also Joe Hill only two novels so far and a book of short stories although not really crime as such but strange/good

I also love the Mallory novels by Carol O'Connell, an American writer.

Beautifully written but also tense and violent.

Crime thrillers set in Texas - I really enjoyed his books.

Anything by Harlen Coben

Try: Harlan Coben, Lisa Gardner, Nicci French and Karen Rose.

If you like psychological thrillers then I'd recommend Sophie Hannah's novels.

Lesley Pierce books are an excelent read, you may need a box of tisues when reading some of her books.

I dont' really "get" James Patterson - I think he did the Lake House with the Bird / Humans? - not really me, sorry.

Another thread recently reminded me of Marcia Muller - if you like Val McDiarmid you might like her Sharon McCone books

The Alphabet series by Sue Grafton featuring a detective called Kinsey Milhone. A for Alibi, B for Burglar etc. She's up to 'U' now so lots of books to read! They are a light read but I never guess the endings.

Louise Penny. Absolutely superb.

Ooh, I forgot my favourite - Robert Goddard. He's written loads.

Do you like historical fiction combined with sleuthing?
If so try Anne Perry, Shirley McKay, David Ashton, Ellis Peters' Brother Cadfael books, Candace Robb, go to the library you'll find loads
If you like American books, I love Jonathan and Faye Kellerman, I second Sara Paretsky, Sue Grafton,
My favourite at the moment is Phil Rickman, Merrily Watkins, about a woman priest on the borders of England and Wales.
I love PD James, Ruth Rendell and Barbara Vine.
